We are trying to run the o-gauge 2018 Amtrak Ready-to-Run engine across an o-72 switch. The engine loses power once its center rollers are all on the switch (which is hooked up to accessory power). I feel like I'm missing a simple solution to keep the engine running over the switch, but since none of the centers rollers of the engine are attached to the track I'm not sure where the engine would be getting its power. The entire track is realtrax. Do I hook up this particular switch using track power? Something else? Thank you.

Something to try: When you hooked the switch up to accessory power, you had to remove a jumper pin that ties the track (center rail) to the switch motor power. After removing this jumper, you are left with one screw terminal that can now be used to power the center rail of the switch.  Run a wire from the hot side of your track power to that remaining terminal, your switch is now a power lock-on. Run your engine through the switch to see if that solves your problem.

This may or may not solve the problem but you'll know positively the center rail of your switch is powered. It could also be just how the center pickup rollers find the brief "dead" spots in the switch.

Your post brought me to the answer I needed to traverse the switch. I forgot (and forgot to mention) I had insulated both ends of the split on the switch as I'm using them for sidings and want to be able to turn the power on/off each siding individually using SPSTs. I removed the electrical tape between the center rails from one side of the split. Thank you.
