I have a MTH GG1 and it has the "soft" plastic insulators at the four corners of the pantograph assembly between the pans and the top of the locomotive. They seem to have the tendency to pull out of the engine body and are a pain to reinstall.

Would it be a bad idea to use some ACC glue to hold them in place or is there some operational/maintenance issue I should consider before doing so?

Since the assembly can be removed, the tight fit rods that snap over the insulated central pin have likely spread apart some, losing the ability to positively lock down the pan. assembly.  Pull off the assembly, turn over and check if the 2 parallel wires (rods) are indeed parallel and not bent away from the centering hole.  A slight squeeze with needle nose pliers to return them to perpendicular should restore locking ability.
