Hello, first off let me start off by saying hi, Im new to the forum and O Gauge world.  Ever since I was a kid ive been around toy trains.  My dad collected everything from N to G.  Although he never ran them i was always fastenated.  A few weeks ago i pulled out my old HO layout I started a few years back and gave it to a less fortunate person.  This brings me to now.  I started a small (limited space) O gauge switching layout using Lionel fastrack i got in and old set i bought back in '08.  About a week ago i bought an MTH H10-44 with PS1 and QSI.  I threw it up on the track it fired up but no movement, just sound.  The guy I purchased it from replaced the 9V and serviced it before shipping.  Ive been reading post after post and getting bummed.  I found out my Lionel 40W transformers too small and doesnt produce the right wave reauired to run the loco.  Is there any option other than the Post war transformers? I cant afford a ZW or Z4000 right now and honestly would be way overkill for my layout.  Is there anyway around using a 50+ year old transformer? Should I just try and resale and get a PS-2 or newer loco?

being that your new to O gauge, Id suggest a MTH Z1000 transformer, they usually can be had on the cheaper side between 60 to 100 bucks, they are all over the auction sites...just make sure you buy one from somebody reputable.....that transformer will run your new loco very well.....and you be able to activate the horn and the bell with the buttons....just my 2 cents...others may have more suggestions
