Yep. This is definitely one of those situations where I don’t exactly need it and it may not be rational, but I’m all in on the first engine and that color scheme.  It’s like a dog whistle calling out to me. Don’t tell anyone on the “is my train purchasing rational” thread. It also nails down that other thread on “is it worth buying new mth”. Yep, when it’s Long Island in a color scheme I want, I’m all in. Pretty cool!

I'm with you SH. The end of MTH and a home town line. Might be my very first pre-order. Rationality be dammed! 🤪

The second one works for me. I have a RS-3 in the other scheme already

( gray/orange).

At least I could pick it up in Lynbrook.

Got em all, dont need a FANTISY diesel... nice try.

You would sell a bunch of SIRT S-2 9027 in the (LARGE  S I )  side fonts - STATEN ISLAND scheme vrs. the overrun LIRR choice.

Every ones out of touch on what modelers really want.

S-2 9027 SIRT 3-72 A. ...

I love those MTA colors, SIRT. Unfortunately, like with the subways, MTH lost the MTA license, so we would need to put on our own MTA decals and live with the incorrect Long Island lettering, but that’s ok for me.  It seems every manufacturer has been having issues replicating paint schemes and lettering lately.  For me, I just love the mta blue and yellow colors that I remember from the 70s and I’m not going to wait for lionel to come out with an rs-3 in this scheme.  For those of us LIRR fans that are ready for “close enough for” real, this works. I put in an order for this one - https://www.trainworld.com/man...rainworld-exclusive/

and have my MTA stickers ready to try and convert it over to this -

So when searching the product number on the MTH website the picture shows all three of these engines being in the simple blue and yellow paint scheme, prototypical to the LIRR. Meanwhile, the three designs above are all fantasy schemes.

So which paint scheme is it going to be?

According to train world, it’s going to be the paint schemes on their website, not mth’s. I called trainworld to confirm because I would rather the cab be plain yellow like the mth site, making decal placement easier, but that’s not the case.   It’s not a deal breaker for me because it’s close enough and with weathering and decal place, ent, I think I can get the one I ordered looking close to the actual Long Island rs-3s in the photos I’ve seen (see the ones I posted above).

The original thought was more plain loco but without the decal it just doesn't look the same.

Well, I preordered 1556 just to have an MTA RS-3 and can have someone make the MTA decals for the cab. I would have preferred it to not have Long Island on the side but we run our trains on three rails, can't be too nit-picky.

Wow. Early Christmas presents.

And I just received a big gift certificate to Trainworld. 👍👍

Lucky you! That gift certificate would certainly burn a hole in my pocket, particularly Black Friday after Thanksgiving! If you do head over there, post some pics of these RS-3s so we can drool with further anticipation while awaiting our shipments!

False alarm. I checked and forgot I ordered the RS-1 in dark green.

@KenJrTW- any sign of these yet?

MTH #30-20943-1 Long Island RS-1 Diesel Engine With Proto-Sound 3.0 - [Trainworld Exclusive) (Green)

Hey everyone,

We received a bunch of pallets from MTH the other day.  In this shipment were the RS3s, unfortunately, not the RS1s. Also received the Long Island 50' Modern Box Car.

The following numbers should become active and show in stock in the next couple of days once preorders are processed.  Please bear with us as it always seems to be the case that all manufacturers ship items the week of black Friday lol!

RS3s
30-20834-1
30-20832-1
30-20833-1

Long Island 50' Modern Box Car
30-71077
30-71076

Hey Chris,  Yes we had to make the black RS1 Nonactive as it was getting close to our allocation.  That being said even the Brunswick green has done exceedingly well.  People just love Long Island! The debate of which is prototypical still exists but it seems like black has the slight vote of confidence.

As per MTH, they are on the water and are expected approximately in 1-2 months.

We just received the Long Island bay window cabooses so orders will be processed this week.

Rats!

thanks for the reply, I think the black one is the one I really wanted.

is the green going to be the same color as say a PRR engine?
