Hi guys, I’m wanting to get some advice on a locomotive that I’m considering purchasing and wanted to get your thoughts since it is a rather expensive purchase. It’s the MTH Premier M2 challenger with Proto 2.

I just wanted to get you guys thoughts on how this engine performs and if it’s a good model to invest in. Would love to hear what you guys experiences have been!

This would really help me in making my decision.

Thanks!

Side clearance is a big issue with a challenger.  Test run on your layout to make sure you have ample clearance.  I had to move vertical upper rail supports to get proper clearance.

Thanks for the heads up Bruce! I know that the curvature that I’ll be running it on is on a modular lay out that has curves as large as 0-99.  So clearance should not be a problem😁

I had just purchased this engine and so far has ran great for the three days I have run time on my layout.  This M2 has lots of great detail on it.  The only thing that I have noticed is that the whistle seems to be a bit low in volume, other then that I have had no problems.  Make sure you do a good lube job before running it, my M2 was dry.  Also I put a BCR2 in it.  I purchase mine NOS,new old stock, and being it was about 14 years old I took out the battery.  Good Luck, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
