I'm working on the design of a new Tinplate layout.  I want to include a monorail but have a few questions about how to implement the track plan, like....

-can you cut a straight rail to make the total loop shorter?  Hoping I can adjust a bit on the total loop length.  Planning for the monorail to clear some big items (station, powerplant, hellgate bridge)

-is the hanger threaded into the base? I saw a few off-the-ceiling hangers and I'm guessing it's more than just a press fit?

-can the hanger be extended easily?

- could I make a smaller base if needed for a few tight spots if I screw them down to make 'em more sturdy?

-is the width of the monorail plus motor/weight evenly divided from the center rail, or is it offset to one side?

Any responses would be greatly appreciated!  Track plan set...table built...hoping for a Christmas debut!

Thanks, Ed

It would not be difficult, but I suggest only cutting it near the spacer, so about a half rail.

No it's not threaded, they slip in

I think it can be done, but easily ??

I cut the back side off of mine. If you cut them back, I recommend screwing them down.

Not sure if this will help but as Steve said, the post just slips into the base. Because of this, the post doesn't have to be inserted in a specific direction in relation to the base. I was toying around with making a new base and I haven't given up completed on it, just haven't had the time. But what I was thinking of doing is to make a small steal tube, the same size as the base hole and weld it to a flat steal plate that has "ears" on it with holes. Paint them up and now I have a lot more flexibility where I can put the posts. They will need to be screwed down of course but that's not a problem.
