MTH O Scale

MTH 50-1039 ProtoSound DCS WiFi Digital Command System 2
The previous TIU units can no longer be made by MTH. 50-1039 is the replacement for the TIU and is designed to be used with the Wifi App and/or can be tethered to the MTH DCS HandHeld Remote Control. Additional pieces for handheld use not included
DCS is the EASIEST-TO-USE, MOST INTUITITVE command control system you can buy.
It works with ANY iOS OR ANDROID SMART PHONE OR TABLET.
It can be UPGRADED FOR FREE over the Internet.
It can DO MORE for less money than other command control systems.
It's why you'll have MORE FUN operating your trains than ever before.
It can RUN OVER 7000 M.T.H. PROTO-SOUND® 2.0 & 3.0 LOCOMOTIVES and every Lionel TMCC®, EOB, or Legacy™ locomotive ever made - and run 99 of them at the same time, on the same track, independently, in command mode.*
It can also RUN ALL CONVENTIONAL AC or DC LOCOMOTIVES without the purchase of any additional hardware.
With the addition of an Accessory Interface Unit (AIU), it can OPERATE ANY O SCALE ACCESSORY OR SWITCH.
It can CREATE SCENES AND ROUTES that are triggered with one push of a button.
Current and past DCS Remote Handheld units (50-1002 and 50-1038) cannot control the WTIU
because there is no 900mhz radio transimtter/receiver in the WTIU
* Requires Lionel TMCC or Legacy Command Base + Lionel LCS Serial Converter 2 (SER2) AND DCS Premium App

MTH 50-1039 ProtoSound DCS WiFi Digital Command System 2 allows you to control your trains by App.  You just need to purchase this unit and download the free App to run all your DCS trains.

Side note.

From what I understand, this can be used as a replacement TIU for older units however the DCS remote must be tethered to the Wifi unit.  I'm trying to have MTH update their description because there is a lot of confusion on this.  The Wifi Digital Command Unit will not allow you to use the remote wirelessly but you can tether it to the unit using a phone cord.

Unfortunately, the older TIU is no longer viable or physically able to be recreated. Tethering seems to be the only option to use with older remotes or just go with the App.

I would suggest once downloaded, pay the $25 and get the full version.  The free version would be pretty useless for what this was made for.

Yes...any updated info about shipping with  this new unit will be welcome... I just got word today from my technician that my  MTH WiFi  unit is dead... the metal power connector sleeve that the power plug plugs into fell off  into the unit ...he says too much damage was done to the circuit board to fix it...oh well... I am looking forward to the new combo  unit coming out ..any one who has not added the wifi feature and using the MTH app on your cell phone or tablet  and is thinking of doing so will not regret it... I have had years of enjoyment running my MTH trains this way.

What have you guys all done to make your handheld device easier to hold while playing with trains? The DCS remote was easy to hold and manipulate with just one hand and thumb. Phones are much more clumsy. Small ones are difficult to select things on the screen, and large ones aren't good for holding and using a thumb to reach everything.

I really like the DCS remote for this reason. Carrying around a tablet (awkward to hold and needs two hands) or a large phone is not something I'm looking forward to.

So what are your best suggestions for making it more ergonomic? After-market handles or grips? A strap?

I use a rubberized and rugged protector with hand strap and picture kick out leg.

I can either set it down like a picture frame or strap to my hand and it's reasonably comfortable.

For the local club and using Lionel LCS, we went with a fixed stand and wired charging cable inside so it's more of a fixed control panel.

Unless they did the damage, it probably could be fixed.   I've gotten at least a dozen of them with the same issue, it was a rather infamous failure.

FWIW, Trainworld has them for $169.99: https://www.trainworld.com/mth...-trains-50-1034.html
