Looking at the item # that you provided, the actual price in 2001 was $49.95 and a current one is $89.95.
Regardless, the difference is probably just the cost of manufacturing increase in the ensuing 15 years. I doubt very much if there's been any change in the item, except possibly a bit more detail in the trucks.
Unfortunately, price increases in the model RR industry have become the norm, rather than the exception. A very rough calculation shows that, at a 4% increase in price per year, over 15 years, the product's price would rise from $49.95 to $89.96. That's not really way out of line with other things that have increased in price over 15 years, both within the model RR industry and out..
