I have just purchased the MTH Matheson operating reefer car.  When the used car arrived,  I noticed the operating door was open half way.  I placed it on my operating track, applied power and it came on but the door was stuck.  I removed the car from the track, removed the operating door off of the clip, re-attached the door and the clip now in the door closed position, engaged the power and it now works the way it should.  However, it never shuts off when power is applied to the track.  Something is wrong with the recycle off switch.  I am not that familiar with the car. Can anyone shed additional light, with a picture?  I pasted below from mopac01  what I think is my problem, but not sure where this metal microswitch are is on the bottom of the car.  Do I need to disassemble?

"I have the signalman car which has a bit less action than this and it isn't scale.  I had a slightly different problem with mine recently in that it wouldn't stop operating.  The problem for me was the microswitch.  It wasn't being pressed hard enough by the protrusion on the motor mechanism that moves back and forth along the bottom of the car so the mechanism never shut off.  I had to bend the little metal microswitch arm with the bend/protrusion on the end so it received more pressure and forced the switch to close.   I initially bent it too far out and the mechanism would shut off before the door was completely closed again.  It took a little trial and error to get it in the right position so it would shut off the mechanism just as the door finished closing.

Per MTH website, attached is instruction booklet for "Operating Reefer Car - Mathieson Dry Ice No. 5015"

I believe you have a problem with the microswitch.  You'll need to disassemble to expose the microswitch. Under Light Bulb replacement instructions it shows what screws to remove.  You only need to reach the point as shown below - maybe only half the screws that it takes to get to the light bulb.

Here's a video of the microswitch in action - the microswitch is the black component with the red, white and blue wires.   When the closed door starts moving (you activate the car on the OTS track) the metal lever on the microswitch pops out.  When the door returns to end the cycle, the sliding door presses the lever back against the microswitch body.    This stops the cycle.  Of course the OTS activation control should have been released by this time...otherwise the cycle will restart.

For example, during the cycle, you can take a toothpick or whatever and manually close the microswitch lever; this should immediately stop the action.  Release and the mechanism should continue on.

Usually, some minor mechanical adjustment (bending it) of the microswitch lever solves a continuous-operation problem.

I have one of these MTH Operating Reefer cars, and it would only click when I activated it (through a Gargraves 108 UC/UL track section).  But then I discovered that it works fine as long as the track power is turned on (unlike Lionel's milk car, which I believe does not require track power to operate).  Is this normal for this car, to require track power being on?   Or could it be something about the way the Gargraves 108 track is wired?

Thanks,

Dale
