MTH operating reefer problem UPDATED | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Hi all,

I just bought MTH 20-94060 operating dry ice reefer (2001) new in the box.

It worked fine for the first few cycles, but then the door jammed open and just clicks and won’t close. I can hear the door motor running and the smoke works fine.

I’m afraid to do anything because the last one of these I had did the same thing and in trying to fix it, I broke it.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Ok, thanks very much to @ScottV for his comment on another thread about this. I disassembled the car as he suggested and for some reason I don’t quite understand, one of the gears in the door had jammed. Taking it apart and CAREFULLY putting it back together fixed the problem. Very cool car but finicky. Here is what is looks like inside.

Moderators, I’m going to leave this thread as it might help someone in the future but of course fine to delete if that is better. Thanks!
