Does anyone have an MTH product number list of what has a parts list available?  Trying to order MTH parts and it seems that if you know the part number there is a fair number of parts available online, but getting the part numbers is nearly impossible.  I'm sure MTH gets lots of parts requests, but I've been waiting a week for a response to an inquiry (That's why I normally ask here first).

If someone knows of a source, print, PDF, Excel, etc it sure would be nice to know where things are.

I've got to hand it to brand L for parts, they sure are easier to get along with.

Search your engine on the MTH web site and see if there is a break down for your engine same way you look up a sound file   sometime the cluster of gears is highlighted and when you click on it  should give you a break down of the engine. Not all engines have one.  plus some have part numbers that are no good( part numbers from the builder in China and they do not always line up).   Second choice go to MTH web site under parts ,put in part # BF-0000035 should be a speaker, then once your in, type the part name your looking for   Example   2 wheel trucks then you will see pages of part numbers.   Best is what are you looking for?  Tires, smoke units parts, pickups, motors ?   Let me know and I will see what I can do to help.   Part orders from  MTH  are slow at least 2 weeks or longer,  I have orders picked but not shipped from   July.

best thing I can suggest is ask on this forum name of part you need or item number of engine you need part for and most likely some asc tech will be able to help you by part  number or nomenclature name of the actual part like tire motor mount etc!

there is a wealth of knowledge on this forum and many people will help you especially asc tech's

Al,  Thats a start, too bad so many are missing pictures and incomplete descriptions.

I found a breakdown of what I need 30-1209 (-1216).  Problem is the drawing shows no part numbers (scream).  Looking for chassis, valve gear, and steam chests.  I find lots matching that description, but no specifics.

Re: reason for a previous post looking for a junker RK 0-6-0.

Gary   All of them have a break down but no part number.   Call  MTH parts give them the product number and the description of the part and they might help you.  Still going to be a 2-4 weeks before you get anything.  I will keep a look out for one at the local shows in my area.   I can order the parts but it would still  be 2-4 weeks to get them if they have any.

The parts lists were made when MTH employed over 100 people and a friend of mine did the AutoCadd drawings for them.  There is no one there that can do that type of work, so I don't foresee any new drawings.  We have parts lists for most PS1 and PS2 locos (some carryover to PS3), but it is in a software database that is not available to the public.  Judging from what you are looking for, I kinda doubt that those parts will be available from MTH.  One of my customers, Perrystoyexchange on eBay, bought a trailer load parts, locos, frames, bodies, production samples, etc., from MTH earlier this year so they could free up space for more parts storage.  He doesn't know what he has, so don't ask, but your best bet is to look on his eBay listings and see what pops up.  He does list a lot of steam chassis, boilers, bodies, etc., so check on a regular basis.  He generally lists about 50 items per day, but not all are train related.

I have to ask why this parts list isn't at least available to MTH techs?  It would help a bunch given the difficulty of getting answers when we need them.

Pretty sure it's a software/database issue; very old technology, plus it has cost data associated with it that can't be released.

That's a pretty lame excuse, at least IMO. Converting the database to something that can be selectively displayed/printed can't be like rocket science.  I've been involved in projects that had to migrate old data to new software, it happens every day in a host of industries.  The current situation with MTH makes it very difficult to even know what part you need.  Contrast that to ordering parts from Lionel, most of the stuff is on line with pictorial breakdowns and individual listings.

As far as the CAD drawings, I fail to see it's a problem, do what Lionel does.  Just take a sample product apart and spread all the parts out and take a picture.  There's no CAD involved in their parts listings, but you can find every part easily.

Yep, it takes work and time, but if you're in the business, providing support is a very important part of the business model!  The best product in the world isn't all that great if a simple part kills it and it's like pulling teeth to get a replacement!

When I have found the part I need and go to purchase it, MTH tacks $30 onto it for shipping. so I empty my cart and leave. I refuse to pay that kind of shipping charge for a set of traction tires. They really need to address this shipping charge problem. I have heard that if you call them you can get this reduced, but who has the time?

That's insane. $30.00 to ship traction tires, wow.

I got bit on an ebay purchase (my fault for not noticing details in the picture) on some Overton passenger cars that were missing the couplers. I went on the MTH site tonight and got the part number and put four in my cart. $27.95 shipping. Got the same parts from the Train Doctor for $8 shipping. Continuing example of their high shipping costs posted to an order. I only mention this as an example of the website problems mentioned earlier. Not trying to hijack the thread.
