Hi all,

I must say I'm very excited by the latest catalogue from MTH. I have been waiting several years to have a chance at the NS OCS train and really wasn't sure if I'd ever have another chance to buy this set. So, thank you MTH - I am ecstatic!

I am really excited by the chance to own this set with fixed pilots and scale couplers. My thoughts are to pre-order the scale wheel versions of each of the four ABBA units and the complete set of passenger cars. But before I commit to a $2,000 mistake or headache, I wanted to ask if I'm not missing something in my thinking.

I run Atlas O 3-rail track with O72 curves and switches. I am thinking if I purchase this set as described above that I should be able to run this set by installing the provided pick up rollers, switching out the wheel sets and installing Kadee couplers on each end of each A and B unit. I'm also assuming that the passenger cars (or at least one end of the baggage car) will have mounting pads for scale couplers. I intend to make the baggage car a transition car with scale coupler on one end and the high rail couplers left in tact on the other end and on all other passenger cars or possibly switching all couplers to scale couplers. Would switching the passenger cars to scale couplers also require changing out wheel sets or do the high rail couplers and arms detach from the trucks that come on the cars? Am I over-simplifying this or asking for headaches or would it be best to just stick with all high rail units? I fully appreciate the knowledge and experience of the members of this forum and welcome your input on this idea before I commit to such a large purchase.

Thank you all in advance.

Thanks for the input. I know this is probably the best way to go but also can't help thinking how fantastic this set will look with the fixed pilots and scale couplers. The articulating pilots seem to bother me more of the F units than on any other model for some reason.

As to those who already had the DAP set, I feel for them but only so much. This is much too nice of a set and too popular of a train for there to be only 250 floating around - hense the huge demand and ridiculous prices people are fetching for them. Owners have had plenty of time to make their killing if they wanted to and had to know that this train would likely be re-released one day, just as many of the other DAP offerings already have. And it's not like the DAP set has no value now - I can't imagine anyone not being able to sell this set today for well above original retail despite the new catalogue. They might have a harder time finding someone willing to pay $3,000+ for it but that was really an anomaly in the market and now it's being evened out a bit by more supply. That's just MTH cashing in on some of the demand they helped create - good for them.
