I too have the NP passenger set, sans the full length dome, and one A-B-A set each of the F3s and F7s in one of the most attractive passenger car schemes ever, IMO.  All the cars are numbered, as the two-tone green scheme eliminated the noun names for sleepers that were found on the cars when they were in the Pullman Green / Light Green scheme when first purchased.  My two-tone green "North Coast Limited" is set in 1954.

I have some MicroScale decals which have allowed me to put "CB&Q" or "SP&S" in the upper letterboard corners on one each of the domes, and change the numbers to match the prototypes.  At York this year I was able to purchase two "extra" flat top coaches.  One of them will become the lounge car "Lewis & Clark Traveler's Rest" in a future project using Champs decals.

I also have the Pullman Green / Light Green scheme F7s and passenger cars that MTH issued years ago.  Here I changed the observation car to "Montana Club" from a MicroScale decal set, and changed the sleeper "Butte" (MTH lettering) to "Missoula" (MS decal set again).  I also changed the font size of the lettering on the dining car.  I run a Pennsy sleeper and a heavyweight Pullman with this 1952 train, to set out at Livingston for a Yellowstone Park tour.  My sleeper is "Chief Blackfoot" with Northern Pacific in the letterboard (Champs decals).

I eagerly buy Northern Pacific when MTH issues it.  I am hoping in the future to see the SD45 and U30C models issued in the classic NP black / gold-buff paint scheme.

One of my favorite schemes for certain. Another Lowey home run. Traveler's Rest is an amazing and fun car. some early images...

Lacks some of the charm with loss of the murals and the addition of inappropriate furnishings, but still very nice.

Rick, please post pictures when you have completed your project.

This is one of the times I'm glad I opted for the MTH set over the GGD aluminum set.  Long story short... I had started to purchase ala carte GGD NP coaches, but it was taking FOREVER for them to deliver the "finish set" that included the observation car.

Then MTH catalog'd this set, so I pre-ordered it and sold the 3 or 4 individual GGD cars here on the forum.  All's well that ends well.  MTH delivered the set (which I knew would be hard to find months/years later), and hopefully the buyer who bought my GGD cars purchased the "finish set" that was eventually delivered a few months ago.

I passed on the MTH locomotive though, 'cause I had already purchased the Lionel NP heritage SD70ACe's (all 3 units -- two powered and one dummy) in the brilliant and matching paint scheme.  A nice modern-day touch to a classic train.

They'd sell GREAT!!!  Just avoid a full length dome; get the car numbers correct; and, offer some correct diesels to pull them!  Some period correct interiors would also offer a great feature.

I almost preordered the MTH but unscale size and all the domes having the same window configuration was my sticking points.  The actual Northcoast had 2 passenger domes all season and 2 Pullman sleeper domes in the summer, in the winter the sleeper domes were leased to Illinois central and repainted the other to PRR for the South wind and not repainted anybody got a pic of this dome in a PRR train?  Mac shops and Moline made the extrusions for the coach dome with accurate windows but I am not sure about the sleepers. Any info on these domes is greatly appreciated as I have exhausted all the readily available sources.   If Lionel produces accurate dome cars as I have stated before I would rather buy them than build them, domes are abatch!!!
