ABOUT THE J-1E HUDSON STEAM LOCOMOTIVE

In Thoroughbreds, Alvin Staufer and Edward May's definitive book on the New York Central Hudsons, Al summarizes the attraction of this engine in a few perhaps-biased but nonetheless eloquent words: "The Hudsons had it all: looks, performance, and timing. … [The] forte of all Hudsons was power at speed…. That [the NYC Hudson] was the first of her wheel arrangement in the United States matters not nearly as much as what she hauled and how she hauled it. The Hudsons were designed to haul the Great Steel Fleet on the Water Level Route [the NYC's raceway from New York to Chicago, home of the 20th Century Limited and the Empire State Express, and the bane of rival Pennsylvania Railroad, whose route lay over the Allegheny Mountains]. The Hudsons were a New York Central phenomenon. They were a special machine for that special road. They were synonymous with the best. They were the best."

Thanks to Joshua Lionel Cowen, the Hudson also holds a special place in the history of 3-rail O gauge. Lionel's 700E scale Hudson, manufactured from 1937 to 1942, set a standard of detail for 3-rail engines that was unmatched for nearly 50 years until Jerry Williams and Mike Wolf began the trend toward scale detailing that continues today.

Like Lionel in 1937, we believe our model of this engine exemplifies the best in today's O-scale locomotives. The legendary J1e returns to the Premier Line in 2023, upgraded with Proto-Sound 3.0’s quillable smoking whistle.

Support and pre-orders for this locomotive have been so overwhelming we are now taking "STAND-BY" reservations.  This means, if or when a locomotive becomes available, the first person on our "STAND-BY" list will get first refusal.  Thank you so very much to everyone who was lucky to get "on board our Jubilee Empire State Express at the new Syracuse Station!"

What am I missing here? It looks like another black Hudson to me.

Well, for NYC fans, this is a special locomotive. and it’s being built as a J1c, not the more commonly built J1e, now, there’s really no difference between a J1c, & the J1e cosmetically,  but Phil’s having the correct cab nomenclature printed. Also, we’ve worked to specifically make the black coloring unique for this build. This particular cab no. Hudson was the first locomotive into the new Syracuse station after tracks were relocated to get them off Washington St…….plus, ITS A HUDSON!…😁😁😁

Thanks, Pat, for enlightening me. I'll have to read up on this one. I'm a NYC fan, but I guess not as hardcore as some--although I do own more Hudsons than any other loco (9 of them). At this point, something about it has to be really different to me (such as Pacemaker colors) for me to justify another one. Looks like that's a good thing as it appears I have already missed this one.

Mario’s the one with all the Hudsons, ……him & Pete too, ….I can only dream of what they have,…..😁

On recommendation from counsel, I have no comment as to classification and/or road number(s) which may or may not exist in my collection, as I may incriminate myself.

There’s nothing more desirable than an locomotive with history, provenance and/or accuracy.

Article V, subsection 9, calls for complete transparency. Your counsel is going to get you in hot water, ….

discloser is the only recourse,…..tread lightly suspect # 2

Mario, we are small potatoes. Rumor is of a warehouse going up on the Carolina shores the size of an Amazon warehouse and I spoke to Jeff and its not his. He said he heard some train guy is building it to house his collection.

Thanks Pat for explaining the difference of this locomotive from all the others.  For us, HISTORY is as fascinating as the models themselves.  Similar, but not as famous as the story of the "999" and its record-breaking event, other New York Central locomotives played parts in major historical events.  Thankfully, many historic events were not tragic like the wreck at Little Falls NY that killed many people or a boiler explosion of a 20th Century Limited Dreyfuss in nearby Canastota NY.

One such happy event was the removal of over 100 daily New York Central passenger trains from the streets of downtown Syracuse, NY.  This model Hudson we are building dubbed "The Jubilee Hudson" is the first eastbound Empire State Express into the all-new elevated station, a huge civil engineering project built in 1936, during the height of the Great Depression.  The Jubilee celebrations was so great, it lasted several days and made national newsreels shown all-over the United States.  You can read more about our model here:  https://jrjunction.com/product...-jubilee-j1c-hudson/

The real story is best found by reading the Railroads In The Streets Of Syracuse book available here:

https://cnynrhs.org/web/shop-us/

Its fun when our custom run models and the hobby we all enjoy help tells a story we feel is worth telling.
