I have and MTH scale wheel version of the Premier SD70M-2 EMD Demonstrator. I have had the diesel for several years but never took it out of the box until today.  I went to install the pickup rollers on the trucks, MTH provides four with the screws to attach them.  The problem is that only the inner screw hole on each truck accepts the screw to attach the pickup roller.  There is a hole for the outer pickup roller screw but there are no threads to attach the roller.  Using a flashlight it appears that there may be threads lower inside of the truck but the screw(s) are too short.  Does this engine only use two pickup rollers?  Why did MTH provide four rollers?  Does anyone else have the scale wheel version of the SD70M-2?  Thanks for any assistance.

Bill

I’ve had this happen before, too.  Those holes where you can’t put the roller has actually had the inner nut move or get dislodged from its place inside the truck block. You’ll need to remove the truck block, and push the nut back down into place for the screw that holds the roller. It takes 4 rollers like all Premier diesels with the 3/2 block

I hope this helps.

The problem is that nothing holds these threads in there. They sit in a slot for them and the roller's screw holds them in. So I install those screws even when I don't use the rollers.

You need to use a pick and pull those threads (slide nut) back towards the hole.

Maybe tapping on it while it's upright might do it? It slides very easily so don't shove the screw in there.

Oops, Jeff S also posted now.

You will  probably  have to remove the shell. You would then remove the screws under  the trucks that attach them to the motor mounts.

Your manual may document the process. You may  be able to find a parts diagram for your engine on the MTH website.

What Calvin says. You have to remove the shell so you can hold on to the motor as you unscrew the truck from the motor mount from below. Its pretty straight forward, much simpler than performing the same task on a Lionel diesel.

If you can see the threads up there with a light, you don't have to take anything apart. It takes some patience. The piece slides up and down very easily.

There should be a wire on the other end. That way when you throw the switch for three rail, something is connected to those rollers!

I think there should be instructions to install those screws to protect the wiring even on 2 rail usage.
