These don’t have to be in perfect shape. Lights and smoke must work. I’ll be converting to dummies w sound to run with Lionel engines.

what about PS-1 engines?

Not really. Because you have to turn the power off to get it into run mode, they don’t work for dummies with sound. I have used them for lighted smoking dummies.
I have a ps2 sd45 brand new in box.union pacific

How cheap do u have to buy a Proto 2 engine to make it worthwhile to turn it into a dummy unit? I have plenty of proto 2 engines here new in box, but they run fine, so why make them into dummy units?
And are you looking for particular engines/roads?

Because a dummy w lights and sound and smoke is superior to the dummies produced. Up, csx, conrail, B&O, prr, sp.
What do you run these with? What are the powered units?
I run them with Lionel engines. The dummies add some additional rumble. It would be nice to be able to rev them up. That's the one thing I haven't done. Perhaps I could cut the shaft off of the motor and let the top spin?
I don't have a dcs to run the engine so that why it's for sale.
I think I'd add Lionel sound boards to the dummies to allow full control. If you're running with TMCC/Legacy, you're not going to get diesel rev working with PS/2 boards.
