How well do MTH PS3 engines run in conventional with a regular (not an electronically simulated/altered waveform) transformer, or, through a TPC ?
I am mainly interested in if, and how well, the cruise function would operate.

I have a Williams engine that was upgraded to Proto 3, I just ran it conventionally this weekend at my club and it doesn't run as well as it does when I use DCS. Later on this week I'll see if I can figure out why.
I have 2 Proto 3 locos, both work well on conventional transformers.

How about the cruise control?

Dave:
i have four MTH 3.0 engines and am a conventional runner using a Z4000. The cruise function works well for the most part; even with a train strung out through two reverse curves.
I'll note I have had to do a factory reset on one of the engines several times to get the cruise to function properly.

I have several mth proto-3 and they all run well at club layout in conventional mode
Here's a link to a video of my engine that I posted in the weekend photo thread. The engine is running at 21 watts and drawing over 4 amps and that's as fast as it'll go. Take a look at how bright the lights in the passenger cars are.
They function beautifully. Cruise, I think, is better in conventional with PS3 over PS2.
I've got a nice, clean PS3 0-8-0 switcher for sale on the For Sale forum right now as well.
Thanks for the replies. I just checked the MTH site and read a description about PS2 cruise and start-up in conventional operation, but I wanted to hear some first-hand experience. Since the direction can be locked, and the cruise is normally on after a shut-down, it sounds like it would work in a timed-off block scenario also.
Yes Bill, the lights were bright. Notice the effect the dome cars produced when they exited the tunnel portal.
