Hello All,

I picked up a unused Santa Fe Northern yesterday at a train show. I didn't realize how old this model was until I got home. My setup is Z1000  block hooked up to my TIU running Variable Output. I added my track and selected it. When it started up it was at 5.0 volts, and a loud humming noise was coming from the train. After i increased the voltage, it started to move, but at a standstill it just hums loud.

I tried it at a fixed voltage with same results. I have another older MTH as well, and it hums the same. I am assuming this is normal with these older models.

One other question. I do have newer trains that run fine with no hum, it is just the older ones. But here is my question, and hopefully I have it setup correctly.

I have my Z1000 controller hooked up to my Fixed Input and my wires Fixed Output to the track. I also NOW have a Z1000 block attached to my Variable Input and the output wires from my Variable Output to the track. Is this OK to do? This will save me time moving wires around.

I picked up the Wifi unit as well, but once I get this sorted, I will play with that next toy.

Thank you,

Kenny
