There is plenty of track available between MTH and SHS, there are few to no turnouts. I found almost all the SHS turnouts I had needed repairs of the sliding contacts inside the turnout. They were not a robust design. I do not know if the MTH versions were better.

Were I building a layout with MTH sectional track I would use the FasTrack turnouts from Lionel. There are tutorials on how to join the two track systems. The FasTrack turnouts appear to be more reliable and they are available in two different sizes, 20"R and 27"R.

The best commercial turnouts available using the .138" rail are Fox Valley, but they are not sectional. They are also #5's so they complicate the layout design.

Tom,

Thanks for the info! I have about twelve boxes of the S Helper track and four turnouts which I have not used yet. The turnouts have built in power control which I thought would make wiring sidings easier then fast track. The layout right now is all fast track but no one is listing remote switches with out command control which I do not use.

Thanks

Gunny

You should get one of those turnouts out and try it. The power control does not work like the Gilbert turnouts. As I recall the slide switch on the SHS turnouts either puts power from the point side of the turnout to both legs of the frog side or to neither. This second setting allows for use of a relay or a separate power source to the frog side.

I'd certainly try the Fox Valley Hi-rail turnouts, it should be easy enough to make the roadbed the same height as the SHS S-Trax system. and the rail is the same; .138".  I find cutting S-Trax to fit to be a fact of life so adjusting for the #5 should be no problem...
