Does anyone have an MTH part number for the traction tires that would fit a Lionel Century Club Niagara? Some have said that the MTH tires fit better...not so thick or such. We need tires for the Niagara Century Club model, 6-28069. Here's the unavailable Lionel part number...

6308071206 TRACTION TIRE / 1.00" ID x .046" TH x .118" WD  $1.50

I think I had the wrong tire in my original post. The one I find now in parts is:

6208069206TRACTION TIRE / 1.062" ID x .038" TH x .118" WD

Not as wide as the MTH and available from Lionel

Seems like all the MTH tires are wide...

I wonder why some like the MTH tires better. Maybe it just depends on which wheel you are trying to fit.

I wonder why a part on the Niagara, or any engine with a traction tire, a part that is subject to 100% ware and tare 100% of the time, would ever be out of stock.

I know Lionel’s customer service performance can shine at times - I know, they performed for me very well the last two times I had to use them - but not having a traction tire in stock just goes to show that in the big picture Lionel does not care about supporting their products in the out years.

 Thanks,

Richard

Many of the "unavailable" parts are still available, just as a changed/ redesigned part with a different part#.

A call to Lionels customer service will get you the substitute part.

I have nothing but good things to say about the ladies that do the parts orders at Lionel.

In other cases, like smoke unit fans. I think Lionel may be metering the number sold, so folks don't buy a dozen at a time " just in case" . Then when someone really needs them they can't get one.

The tire is available, Cjack. get some smoke unit wicks and such to cover the flat shipping  fee. Any other engines need maintenance parts?

There were some engines that had brake shoe rubbing issues and the MTH were thinner. Some older engines had a size that the MTH would work on. I never saw any real preference from forum members. Get the Lionel's.
