I have the opportunity to get this diesel for a good price but I’m kind of on the fence about it. My father (who got me into the hobby many years ago) doesn’t like it nor does my wife... hah But I think it’s very interesting. Anyone own this one already that can give me some positive reviews?:-)

I own this locomotive.  It ran in smooth fashion with good lights and sound right out of the box using an MTH Z-4000 transformer.  I can't speak for  MTH DCS, as I don't use this operating system.  If you use Command Control or Legacy, you might want to consider the Lionel version.

The legacy version is nice, but I’m sure it’s way more $$$ than this one.

I have one with scale wheels and fixed pilots. It's a beautiful locomotive and, like my other SD70ACe's from MTH, runs well, sounds good, and can handle O-72 curves (Gargraves/Atlas/MTH ScaleTrax) with the scale wheels if the track is laid properly. Can't help you with Dad and the Wife not liking the locomotive, but let's just say that my ex-wife's family absolutely hated my wanting a Bush '41 locomotive but I bought one -- it's MY hobby.

Bottom line is, it's a nice locomotive that runs well, sounds good, and sends a patriotic message. Go for it.
