Hey folks

Help

i have MTH general that has been converted to command with electric RR my buddy has one that does the same. At home and two other layouts runs perfectly using a ZW as a power supply.  When I try to run it at the club it dies or goes uncomfortable.
The only common thing is the power source which is at least 30 plus years old. No other engines act up on the layout.
even tried another MTH steam engine today and it ran great.
Not sure if this would have any effect but the general has one roller on the engine and one on the tender. The one we tried today has two rollers on the engine and one on the tender.
Any suggestions?

We hooked up a ZW to one of the tracks at the club. Train ran fine. It’s only when we use the Big power ( don’t know brand runs 5 tracks)  that the problems occur. The antenna on the tender was replaced still acts up. I think my buddy said he was going to contact you directly. The Electric RR boards were purchased from you.

I'm having a difficult time with the transformer affecting the TMCC signal.  The R4LC could have marginal signal reception, that would explain the different environment.

What does "The antenna on the tender was replaced" mean?  Aren't you using the tender shell as the antenna?  I think we need more details about what the configuration is.  Also, what are the exact symptoms of the failure.  By "dies", does it just stop running?  Does it still have sounds?  How do you get it restarted?

I have no idea what happens when an engine gets "uncomfortable".

Note that you mention five tracks at the club, it's quite possible that the signal strength is lower there, and any slight change in the signal at an engine is enough to push it over the edge beyond reliable operation.

The engine will takeoff and I have no control of it with the handheld. It will also stop and the sounds stay on. To regain any control the power has to be cycled.
there is an antenna wire which comes out of one of the cards and we have it wrapped around the tender on the outside.
At the club there are 5 tracks powered by the big transformer. There is one that is powered by a ZW. As I’ve stated the ones powered by the big power is when problems occur no matter which track I’m on. When I run it on the ZW track everything works fine.
seeing it happens on two like engines is where it stumps us.
