Hi Marc,

The #990 Legacy control system will control only Lionel engines in command.

Connect the base wire to the black output terminal on the Z-4000 or connect it to an outside rail of the track.

Power the Legacy base on first, then the Z-4000 and set the voltage to 17-18 volts.

Now the Legacy remote will operate the Lionel TMCC\Legacy engines.

You can operate both the MTH and Lionel TMCC/Legacy engines in conventional mode

( no remote or base powered on), transformer handle control).

I have MTH and Lionel engines.

Sorry if my English is not perfect.

Salut Marc,

Doug

but now I have :

1 MTH Z-4000

1 Z-4000 Remote

1 DCS Remote Control

1 TIU

1 Lionel Legacy Control System

1 TMCC Track Power Controller

1 connector cable ???

And.....I don't know how to connect all...

How to connect everything that you listed and a whole lot more is all in the The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

warok,

The very 1st thing you need to do is invest in Barry's DCS O Gauge Companion book, it explains everything in detail, if you are a visual type learner the OGR Video Guide to DCS is also available, a great visual learning guide for the beginner, Rich Melvin does a great visual instructional job on how to set up the DCS/Legacy, especially good for the beginner.  The book and the video eliminate a lot of hands on learning/frustration, with great education, at your finger tips.  I highly recommend the purchase of both.

Want  to try it?

 DCS command

Power supply is the Z-4000 which goes to the tiu Fixed 1 input.(2 wires from one handle) Fixed 1 out put goes to the track. Red is always center rail... That's it for DCS command for a small loop or test track.

For legacy command... Plug the base in and run a wire from the "U" connection on the base to an outside rail.   (the track power is already there via the Z-4000 and tiu.

For DCS add the engine to the remote under menu/system/engine set up/ add engine/ add  mth engine.... The engine should add and then  hit start up.(number 3 on the dcs remote)  good luck.

Hi all,

It’s ok, I have the DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition.

After one night, 10 coffee and some cookies :

MTH Z-4000 with TIU and DCS Remote Control : perfect.

Lionel Legacy control System : perfect but need an update.

Test : engines with PS1/2/3 : run perfect.

Lionel engines TMCC : perfect but no horn and no bell

Hi warok,

That's great! All working in 1 session is sheer determination!

I assume that you are using a step-down transformer to provide 110-120v AC for the train equipment.

Legacy update 1.54 specifically addresses issues related to the 50hz frequency.(we have 60hz here)

That may resolve the horn/bell issue.

Is the legacy base track wire connected to the TIU out Black(neutral/common)

Also, try running the Lionel TMCC engines with the Legacy system remote. You may have to manually configure those for Cab1 mode in the Legacy remote. (see Legacy Manual)

Thanks to all but...,

I have a problem with my Lionel Legacy Control System :

Marc,

I apologize for the inconvenience. All Legacy systems with the 1.0 version software need to come to our North Carolina facility for an upgrade before being able to download the subsequent upgrades from Lionel.com. If you can provide me with your address and phone number, I can get a return authorization set up for you to send the system to us for the upgrade.

Thank you,

incredibly easy. All you do is take the transmitter with phone jack and plug it into the back of the sea 4000. Put batteries in the remote that goes in your hand. And you're operating the train exactly as you would if you were staying the exactly at the transformer. The Z 4000 remote is merely an extension of the transformer. I wish they would make more of them. But they're trying to sell command control. The reason I'm not interested in getting command control. Even though command control is better. Is because with his c4000 remote you can run any engine in any area by any manufacturer and it works. And you're not stuck to your Transformer. You are free to walk around your layout with your trains.need to. My layout fills up the basement

Now that you've done the easy stuff, you need to explain how to use his "Z4000 Remote".

You're way off-base.

He wants to use it with DCS, not conventionally.

Since he has The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition, he's now all set up.

Hello all,

Some news :

My Lionel Legacy Control returned to me from Lionel with software 1.6

My DCS Remote Control after update 4.3 : game over, LCD display not working, I can make an update but nothing…

My new DCS Remote control (I have buy another one) : update 4.3 : perfect.

After testing with PS1, PS2, PS3 and TMCC engines :

PS1, PS2, PS3, with DCS Remote control : perfect.

TMCC with Legacy : so stupid !!!

For exemple :

The engine on the track

Lionel Legacy Control System : ON

Z-4000 : 18V

Engine : runs alone, I can’t control it.

Slide the engine’s program/run switch to program : the engine moves forward alone….

Change the engine ID : impossible.

Reset the engine : impossible.

And after I can’t use the engine with only my Z-4000, because my engine does not work anymore.

I can use it with the Legacy Control System but ….run…run…run… but I’m happy, I can use the horn and bell !!!!

It’s not with one Lionel engine but with all my Lionel engines.

Aftert testing several system :

Only Z-4000 with one TMCC engine : perfect

Z-4000 + DCS Remote Control + Trainmaster base + TIU with one TMCC engine : strat up / shut down / AUX1 / AUX2 / Bell / Horn perfect but my engine moves forward and slows down.

Z-4000 + Lionel Legacy + TIU with one TMCC engine : start up ok / shut down no / AUX1 ok / AUX2 ok / Bell ok / Horn ok, my engine moves forward and slows down and shut down only with the Z-4000 not with the Legacy base.

MTH PS1 / PS2 / PS3 engines : perfect no problem.

You can see on my plan with the legacy base my engine does not work and with my DCS Remote Control my engine works but moves forward and slows down I don’t know why.

Use the bottom configuration with the Legacy base. The DB9 jack is behind the rubber cover. Fire up the legacy system and do what Joe says, move the brake slider to full minus on the Legacy remote.(Good catch, Joe)

All devices need to be powered on, except the legacy remote, if you will run all from the DCS remote.
