The Trainmasters are interested in this program that was announced in the 2012 Volume 1 catalog. Has anyone contacted MTH about it yet? If so, please fill us in.

Knowing I was getting ready to retire at the end of Feb. 2012, the Cumberland County, NJ 4-H agent asked if I would be interested in leading their 4-H Model Train Club, whose previous leader had to drop out due to work schedule conflicts. My wife, who has been involved in 4-H for over 25 years kinda nudged me into it. Problem was the group was modeling in HO and I'm into O. Well, after seeing the deplorable condition the HO inventory was in, I decided to get the kids involved in O-gauge. My motto is "why have half of something when you can have the whole enchilada."
Neat having two 4-H train club leaders in the same state with the same first name.
I saw the MTH SHR promotion when I noticed MTH's 2012 catalog on-line. I was hoping to get a set for the 2012 fair. I e-mailed MTH but never got a response. Went to my local dealer (Trains N' Things in Vineland) but they weren't familiar with the program. I would sure be curious as to what you learn.
I have learned, though, that setting up a raffle requires a tremendous amout of paperwork since it is considered gambling in the State of NJ, and therefore subject to the gaming laws in the state.

The raffle issue is complicated by the municipal laws of the City of Millville, where the Cumberland County Fairgrounds are. Our 4-H program has been hit hard by the economy, and our 4-H agent has been a bit overwhelmed due to reductions in her staff. I officially retire at the end of February and I'll be able to assist in all of the paperwork involved.
I have a dear pastor friend who lives in Bridgewater and ministers in Somerset. Next time my wife and I go up to visit him and his wife, I will have to insist we visit your shop. My local train shop is great for trains and accessories, but has only a minimal amount of scenic supplies, books, etc.

Great to hear that another 4-H train club is in the works! I apologize for not getting back to this thread earlier as the topic seemed to hit a dead end.
I just got back from the club setting up their annual train meet at the Somerset 4-H Blum Center at Milltown Road in Bridgewater, NJ. The show runs tomorrow and Sunday from 10:00 until 5:00 each day. If you can, come on up on either day to check out what 26 club members can do! Our layout is 32' x 56'- the largest ever for our group!
The 3rd year members have set up a 36" by 84" table with a circle of track and two sidings for the start of a hands-on program. The idea is that the five 3rd year members will show guests how to run the train in conventional mode, and then let then have a crack at the controller. All of the set-up is MTH. I can fill you in later on how it works out this weekend.
I'll be at the meet all day Saturday, but will not be in attendance on Sunday. I can be reached at (973) 255-0012 to talk club organization. Showing your age... The Who...Half of the forumites probably don't know who the WHO is...or are...or is.
I took a girlfriend to the old Asbury Park Convention Center to see Herman's Hermits. The opening act was the Blues Magoos, followed by a totally unknown British rock group called the Who. The audience was nonplussed by the band's name. Their music wasn't particurally well received (pre-Tommy days). But when they did their break-up at the end of My Generation, they were royally booed by everyone in the audience. When Townsend threw his smashed gutiar into the audience, it was thrown back at him. No one had ever experienced anything like the Who before...or since.
