I remember one show where someone was selling 2-rail freight cars, most with metal wheelsets and KD couplers for $8.00 apiece. I bought a few that I liked and when I got to my car, I realized "What a fool I was, what a.....", promptly went back and bought all but one or two of what was left. I did fill the trunk of my car; all for less than a hundred bucks.

Can't buy trucks and couplers for $8 a set.  Cars may be rubbish, but hard to beat the salvage value there.

...Reminds me of the wisdom of my wife's dad.  Most notably, while others would search for a pack or two of replacement bulbs for Christmas tree lites, he would simply buy a new 50- or 100-lite string of lites....simply for the bulbs.  The cost rationalization would've driven a CFO bug-eyed to ecstasy.

Sorta like the handful of customers who come to our store (LHS) to buy a new engine/car for their O3R layout...opting for a complete starter set having the same, if available!  That ol' value perspective....Refreshing.
