My search has begun.  The 1668 was manufactured 1938 or 9 -1941.  Many apparently sold to Santas' 1946 -1950 after the IIWW.  I always wondered which military goods Lionel made during the war and yesterday I found out Binnacles were produced  for the Naval fleets.

I am 80 yrs old, have a layout room (that needs dusting and an engineer, me).  My wife and I are to receive our first Covid-19 injections tomorrow  so hopefully afterwards,  maybe I can dust the layout and run some consists for a while to celebrate.  Thanks in advance, Grand Pa Pa

I went to a friends house 2 days ago to have him help me repair my 1668. The tab on the barrel in the E unit wore out and bent the contact fingers. Lucky for me he had a spare barrel, it is tricky putting it back in, His comment was " I guess Lionel repair men have 3 hands"?  but we got it together again, put it on the track and it shorted out...it was an old wire at the light that caused that problem...Now it is running like it ran 82 years ago. The beauty of these old trains is that they can be repaired and they still run.....Plus they have a character that has lasted all these years...  I love it and it fits in with my Lionel 261 and 259E's. The 261 has been running around the Christmas tree ever since I can Remember and I'm 78.
