Thanks guys it was a really fun project but soooooo much work. I wish I dint have to give it back to the customer but he was blown away.  Every casting on the loco needed to be replaced and it took forever to get the paint right. I painted the tender shell like 8 times. Gloss black is so unforgiving. Wen thru 2 full cans of Rust-O-leum black Lacquer paint

I think the best fun for me in this hobby is bringing broken rusty trains back to life.    None of mine were to the extent you needed to do on that tinplate but I can imagine the effort it took to get the fit and finish you accomplished.  I think I would have wanted to buy it from the owner rather than give it back.

Baking does smooth out the paint and makes it rock hard too. I left the tender in for too long and it got all kinds of weird spots similar to water spots on it and they were in the paint. The finish was smooth and glossy but had all these spots so back to the garage to strip the paint it went
