Not that it provides any consolation, but it looks like maybe the NS colors were applied.  NS paints handrails white.  Regardless, mistakes happen unfortunately in this business.  I've made plenty myself over the years with my affiliation with 3rd Rail.  Most minor and a few major.  I won't say what they are of course, because many of them only I know about and the rest I am reminded of often!

Painting handrails is really not too difficult.  You don't have to be steady if you mask off the parts you don't want to paint.  Pesky FRA mandates.

I forget exactly what year in general the Southern went from white to yellow handrails, but its sometime around or after 1972.  I paint all of mine white since I model prior to 1972.  I don't have any of my books here, but I'm thinking whatever photo they used probably showed white or other photos they looked at showed white.  Depends on era of evidence used.

I wouldn't say it is wrong, though perhaps wrong for the time period you model.

I'm surprised you're not more upset about the dynamic brake package on the roof.  That is probably the biggest flaw.  Then you can beat up all the other road-specific details that are wrong like the horn, cab shades, the missing firecracker antenna, missing mu box, speed recorder, etc.

Hopefully it runs and sounds good.

Dave I can't find a single photo of a white handrail in the Southern image archive. If you can find one I would appreciate you sharing it with me. As for my modeling era I plan for it to be 1979 (to go with my high hood SD35 collection and SR Royal Hudson with pullman green smoothside car set).
