I had some business to take care of in Norwich, Ct. so I thought I'd stop & see Steve @ Ross's. I bought 20 pieces of 120" curved track for me new layout. I have no plan yet but know that one circle will be 120". That way I will be able to run just about anything in the future.

Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Oh yeah, bigger is better. I use a minimum of O-100 and there are still some areas I wished I could go bigger!
Great choice, Spence.
In truth, the perfect railroad, model or otherwise, has no curves, no switches and no grades.
Proportionately, how many of our operating mysteries and complaints start with:
"While running down a long stretch of straight, level track with no switches..."?
Not a lot.
Definitely the right thing to do. Anything you run will look better on w i d e curves.
Nice Spence. They will look great.
You will really enjoy the wide curves. The 3 main lines on our club layout use 120, 128 & 138 radius curves.
I'll post pictures later from my computer, when I get home.
120 inches! 10 feet!! I envy you!!! Enjoy putting that together man!

Tom,
Actually it is really only 5 feet.
very nice!
Now you're talking!
I can't wait to see what you build.
Hi Spence
Fun to watch your progress, I have started drawings to upgrade my layout. You are doing a lot more then I have in my plans. Been working on remodeling the kitchen.
If it can go wrong, it will.

What?!? You didn't pick up some O-128's to go with those?!? All chain-jerking aside, looking forward to see what you're planning.
SPENCE, SPENCE, SPENCE!!!!!!!!!
Should handle any gigantic articulateds that you may pick-up along with any Menards boxcars.

Now you have something to work with Spence. Good move with the 120's.
120" curves and all #7 switches and you will be good to go with any thing, any where, and any time. I wish I had that kind of room, but I had trouble coming up with 7 to 8 feet for my curves with 090 track on the outside. It takes a lot of real estate to turn a 120" curve. Running around the perimeter of the room helps immensely.

Very nice Spence.
Spence....you will enjoy those wide curves since many of the full length passenger cars and articulated locomotives will look fantastic going around them!!

Now you are getting into the mood. Can't wait to see what you do.

Tom,
Actually it is really only 5 feet.
to be fair, it's a 24° curve by any measure.
O144, 6' radius, would be a 20° curve,
the minimum a Big Boy could negotiate.
cheers...gary
Very nice Spence !!!

Ditto with my Attic layout... Spence, I agree. You'll love the big curves. If I could have bought 0144, I would have.
FWIW, the big curves are a bugger to photograph! The curves are superelevated with 1/16" basswood glued along the outer perimeter of the curve. My inner 0120 loop is my passing siding. It's about 28' long give or take.

Spence
I'll jut keep on dreaming about 120 inch curves, heck I'll take less.
Mean while reality sets in at 60 to 72.
Larry
still having fun
Wow, that will make what ever you run on them cool.
Spence,
Sorry it took so long, but here are pictures of out 120, 128 & 138 curves.
The 120's are on the inside.
Spence, can't wait till you get that loop set up and running with pics. Paul
SF Jim; very nice.
