Dining room table test of my 342AC that I acquired last week. Needed a good lube and off she went. Smoke is so-so. Any advice on getting it to smoke better without pulling the smoke unit apart?

Not sure if you added new smoke fluid yet but I have given a quick shot of WD40 into the stack to loosen up the wick of old gummed smoke fluid.
Sometimes you get lucky, otherwise it gets a rebuild

George, The 342, be it the AC or not has smaller gearing on the axle shaft, that being said it runs faster at a low transformer setting. To get better smoke production a smoke unit wound with lower resistance will produce more smoke. The downside is if you run it very fast the unit will fail sooner.

Congrats on the new engine. I wind all of my smoke units to the minimum resistance outlined in the Flyer maintenance manual. I also don't run my engines at WOT either. Enjoy!

I just picked up one of these a month or so ago and mine does the same thing. I'm going to re-wind mine to the lowest resistance since I don't plan on running it wide open either.
