This is my R17 subway pulling into the 14th street station using a mini wireless video cam broadcast to my tv.

Thanks Transit. I have to find a way to get the wireless receiver to plug directly into my computer. The plugs are different, but I'm sure it can be done. I think I will then get clearer videos as a result. By taking a video of my tv screen I am losing a lot of detail and clarity, which is what I have now.

BTW, below is a link of the actual 14th street station I am modeling.

Just when I think I'm done, I find something else to add or change (lol). I wish I could have the talent to weather and do details like some of you guys though. This is the first station I have made all myself. The last station (Grand Central) I had made for me. It has been a fun and learning experience for sure. The next station project will be an all purpose generic "no name" station.

Lee-Thanks for your compliments.

I do not think there is a way to disable the E-unit, at least not in conventional mode. Maybe someone with knowledge in this area will chime in. Usually I just run these subways in what they call "auto mode". Once in "auto mode" the subway will stop at certain segments of your layout and call out the stops you program it to do automatically without further operator control. I think MTH hit a home run with this feature designed for us conventional control guys.

BTW, I did not use "auto mode" for the video because I wanted to be able to control how long the subway stopped.  On all my subways there is only one that calls out the 14th street stop and that is the wrong 14th street as it is "union Square" not the west side 14th street station.

After reading the owners manual I stand corrected. Yes, you can lock in a direction either forward, neutral or reverse by hitting whistle button once followed by three pushes of the bell button. I never used this feature so I was not aware of it.

Yes it did, but only because I kept making changes along the way, worked on it bit by bit when I had time ect. I have probably stretched this project out almost 6 months.

The project started when my wife went on vacation to New York last year and I got the idea of making tunnels under some of my wifes furniture on the floor by raising them on wooden platform boxes. From there I decided to make a station within that hollow wood box and needed a way to view it, so I used a mini wireless cam hooked up to my tv. Then came the platform, details and finally the back wall which I just finished. I had many problems along the way like bad lighting inside the wood box which when viewed through the cam removed all yellow and red color from objects inside and made it look unrealistic. I had misc other problems of adjusting the cam properly too and getting the correct materials to make this station. The greatest problem I had was my lack of modeling skills which took me much longer than most.  Well it's done and I am enjoying it to the max running all my subways.

*It is interesting to note that the bulb problem I mentioned above can still be seen when viewing an MTH subway where the lights should be red and they appear white when seen through the cam image. This does not happen with the Lionel R27 set I guess because they use LED's and not the regular bulbs that are on the MTH units.

Below is the furniture chest with the outside subway station platform box.

The wall on the photo above is removable so I can clean the track and for having to fix problems. The photo below is with the wall removed and shows the back of the station. The track section to the left does nothing and is a junk part that I had no use for. There is just one under cabinet flourecent light which is on the left.

Actually she is pretty cool with it. I am very very fortunate that she is so supportive of my hobby and all that I do with it. Usually I tell her about every change that I am planning, but in the early stage of my tunnel project I did not tell her how much change would take place. I waited till she went on vacation for two weeks and that way I had time to make things just right so I would have an easy time selling her on the project.

It also helps that this room is not in the main part of the house, so if I make a slight mess it is ok.

My future plans are to add two more stationery cams for other stations and one mobile cam mounted to a flat car. Time will tell how this will work out.
