Did the Reading RR have anything to do with the B&O Shenandoah? Thanks.

Mark:

B&O controlled the Reading which, in turn, controlled the  Jersey Central. Since this train ran between Jersey City and Chicago; CNJ and Reading would have handled it between Jersey City and Philadelphia. B&O power would almost certainly have pulled the train though.

Mark:

After you mentioned your Reading and Northern engine; I got to thinking that mention of Shenandoah could be referring to Shenandoah, PA, a small mining town in the anthracite region of Pennsylvania. Reading and Northern has a branch line that serves Shenandoah, PA.

The B&O Shenandoah, while it traveled over a portion of the Reading, didn’t (to my knowledge anyhow) serve Reading Terminal in Philadelphia. Rather it called at B&O’s Chesnut Street Station in Philadelphia. For this reason, my money is on the PSA being related to Shenandoah, PA.
