Can anyone help me in finding a N&W caboose with the large NW logo in either extended vison or traditional style? I'm sure that I seen one but can't remember who might have produced it. I want to create a Dereco EL/DH consist . Thanks

Do you mean the big "NW" in white or the "moon logo" with the N&W sandwiched between 2 half circles? MTH has the 20-91027 steel side cab with the moon logo and the 20-9103 EV has a smaller moon. The aforementioned Lionel 6-6900 EV also has the moon. The Lionel 6-83361 Northeast style hack has just the big NW letters. The Atlas O 557780 with the big NW is the most accurate for what an N&W cab looked like.
Earl, just for the record I do not believe N&W rostered any extended vision cabs. That is if you are looking for any prototypical.

Thanks everyone. I wasn't really sure about the extended vision version either. I thought perhaps I saw one in an old video but your response reminds me that not all so-called memories are reliable........! I'll look into the Atlas with the BIG NW. Since writing I found a couple of prototype photos of the big letter logo on cabs in the Northeast; one passing through my home town. The attached photo shows an EL train pulled by a couple of SD45s passing the Elmhurst PA reservoir sometime in the 70s. Today GVT trains and Steamtown excursions pass this same location.

Earl, atlas makes or made great representations of the N&W C31 cab. These were made for N&W from 12/68 through 3/70. After the blue they were painted red with the large "NW" logo of the time

This is THE place to go for researching N & W equipment: https://www.nwhs.org/archivesd...+Rwy&Cat=Caboose. They didn't have any EV's as near as I can tell. Class CF is the quintessential steam era N&W crummy.

In a word, nope.
If you really want a real N&W Caboose, here's your ticket. I have one and it is absolutely beautiful. This is one of five that exist. I would not fool around too long if I were you....
I have the N&W Lionmaster N&W A as well. I wouldn't hesitate to run this behind any of my N&W steamers. Before you say "expensive" consider that this is scratch built, and take a look at what you're paying for command control locomotives. IMHO, this is a bargain.
There are a few brass ones around. Expensive, rare as hen's teeth, and no where near as nice as this one. Lionel, MTH, Atlas et al just slap a paint job and some stickers on another road's caboose. None are really a proper N&W Cab.

Earl, your photo is a N&W class C17 cab. These were actually Wabash RR cabooses that came to N&W in the 1964 merger into the N&W. MTH does make both Rail King and Premier versions that are semi reasonable representations of the C17. But one thing to be correctly lettered the "NW" would be centered under the copula NOT centered on the body. The "NW" monogram started in 1971.
I guess the question is what era are you modeling?

Becky, the book "Cabooses of the Norfolk And Western" by Bowers and Brewer is a very comprehensive document on N&W cabs. It includes paint and lettering schemes.
You are correct about the CF but also include the CG and CH these two being steel versions of the CF.

Prototypically, the Weaver N&W CG/CF cabs or the Division Point CG/CF cabs, both being brass. Brother Love made some very nice one-offs in plastic and Kohs made some two rail high end brass cabs. Anything else is pure fantasy!
Depending on how accurate you can live with, in a pinch, you could slide by with a Weaver Ultra Line Northeastern cab, numbers and windows are wrong. But, what's a soul to do?
At one time I had high hopes for Atlas and the mentioned C31 for the diesel era. I was personally assured by Atlas that they were doing it right. The outcome was very disappointing!
Kohs was still showing their N&W Caboose @York this past October. You can also check out this site. A correct N&W caboose is expensive. Since the N&W caboose was unique to the N&W, there's little chance of MTH/Lionel/Atlas making one. Dies for a one-off would be cost prohibitive.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Koh's and maybe the Division Point models are questionable to operate with 3 rail tall flange wheel sets.
I repainted a MTH caboose (and a Weaver RS3) not long ago in the N&W Pevler blue scheme:
Not sure what model caboose that is though and if my memory is good I think I had a hard time finding decals for it, not sure.
Wasn't that called the "Hamburger" logo???

As I think already pointed out the "hamburger" logo did not appear until 1963 and blue paint until 1966. Be then all steam was clod most already scrapped.

I also want the caboose to be pretty easy to find. I don’t really want to wait for like a year until one comes up for sale. Also I came across this Lionel northeast style caboose. Is this design accurate besides the big NW lettering?
