I sent Scot Mann an email last night asking if there where any M1's available, and if not, any plans to rerun the engine, so far no reply. I would be reluctant to try to re identify an engine. Also, I have a GGD and 7 Lionel engines all running via TMCC would a MTH run in that environment or would I have to wire up a TIU? Thanks for all the info, very informative so far.

I believe Scott may still be in China, thus his replies to you may be at odd times. However, I can tell you that Scott RARELY does reruns of steam locomotive models. You may just have to resort to watching eBay for a 3-Rail model to popup.

Pretty sure that those sold out in advance.  You see one now and again on eBay

Not often that he re-runs stuff, but given that it sold out, I'd think that there is some potential there unless the number produced was spot on to the market.

I have all of these but I didn't want to go into the train room to take new pictures:

I have one of the Weaver N&W Class W.

Yes, N&W had a Shay at one time. MTH even got the number right.

Railking 0-6-0 is pretty good as well.

The Lionel 0-8-0 is a pretty good representation of a N&W S1

And then I saw: Precision Scale model # 15876-1. N&W 0-8-0 Class S-1-a

I'm trolling The Bay right now and I spotted a shiny Williams 2156 Pacific in N&W paint.

I just looked on eBay at the #15876-1 box. It's HO, whew! Price would have been great if it were O Scale. Yes, I know it's listed in the O Gauge section.

The Williams looks pretty nice. Probably  a good candidate for a command control upgrade. One very little problem, 2156 is a Y6a.

You have three options:

  • Conventional: It will run with the throttle on your transformer.
  • MTH 50-1033   DCS Remote Commander: Provided the locomotive has a FACTORY RESET (easy to do w/ a full DCS system). If it is new out-of-the-box, you're good to go. $60 list
  • DCS: Yes you can pony-up for a full DCS system. You'll also want MTH 50-1032 cable $25 list. This connects the TIU to the TMCC Command Base.

The rule of thumb is; you can run TMCC w/ DCS, but you can't run DCS w/ TMCC.

I see they had some 0-8-0 steamers too.

A N&W expert would know if any of their 0-8-0's were USRA Yard Goats. Lionel made some great USRA Yard Goats scale and in Legacy. (I think mine is one of my favorite locos). If so, you could look into what is involved in changing the decals, or send it to a professional.

TM Terry, the N&W 0-8-0's were copies of several Chesapeake and Ohio C-16b that N&W received in 1950, and the C&O had a different design than the USRA. The Lionel model is fairly close but some modifications would be needed if one wanted it to be accurate. For N&W, they had the headlight centered on the smokebox, had the coal bunker built up, and I believe had a slightly different cab. Precision Scale Company has a lot of brass and plastic detail parts that can be added to a Lionel or other manufacturers 0-8-0 and it would look much closer to an N&W S1 or S1a.

N&W also added a clerestory on the tender for increased water capacity, over-fire air jets and a cinder screen on the stack.  Not to mention that under new ownership the locos got washed more regularly.  It would be great to have a loco with all of those refinements.  But personally I'm satisfied enough for now with my MTH 0-8-0 with the headlight in the wrong place and the wrong tender.
