Need advice: PS3 Upgrade to 1994 era Steam

I've never tried to control the Seuthe smoke from the PS/2 or PS/3, I am always tasked with replacing the smoke unit with a fan driven model.  It certainly draws less than the MTH smoke unit, but there's a sticking point in the fact that the Seuthe is a fixed voltage unit and the PS/2 or PS/3 board varies the voltage depending on operating mode.

Well, it's really just the mechanical mounting of the fan driven unit.  Every boiler shell can be different, so it's somewhat of an individual process.  Connecting the fan driven unit is clearly documented in the upgrade kit.  I use MTH smoke units in most upgrades, so the instructions match.

If you show pictures of the chassis it might help determine if a standard MTH bracket would work.  Key is matching up a funnel.  Normally you need to use brass tube to make one that comes up the stack.   You also need to ensure solder joints don't touch shell on top of smoke unit.  Otherwise standard PS-2 or 3 install.  How PCB fits on rear of engine might be another sticking point with engine this early, but maybe not.  G

Does MTH have a variety of brackets for the fan driven smoke units? Or it is more a matter of finding the one that will get you the majority of the way there and then modifying it the rest of the way? 

I haven't pulled the shell yet (still in the planning stages for this upgrade) but I will do that soon take some measurements and post some pictures.

That is a good looking engine.  It will be worth more if you go for a fan driven smoke unit.  If memory serves me right, that engine has a very small flywheel.

The small flywheels sometimes require a custom mount for the tach sensor, I had one of those.  Ended up with the tach sensor at the bottom near the frame to clear the shell, and it wasn't mounted on the motor.
