As I recall the track next to the pond was tipped a little toward the pond. The chains were dropped and something like a big forklift just rolled the logs off. There was a chain conveyor with spikes that lifted the logs out of the pond into the mill.  I recall high pressure water being used to remove the bark at the top of the conveyor. But it’s been a long time and I may be getting different mills mixed up.
