I noted today a new thing relating to the title of the thread popping up at the top of the browser window once you scroll past the top.

This is a mess when you have a large thread title.  (images attached for reference, using this thread as the example).  For that particular thread, it even does it at the top of the thread, but doesn't seem to do it for threads with shorter titles.

I happen to be using Firefox (latest) on a Windows box.

Side note/rant, this is not the first site I've seen such a thing.  A certain large news site started something similar recently, and it's just as annoying (maybe even more so) there.  Anything that removes from the area I can read the actual content by "popping down" something is a major negative, IMO.  We may as well just go to browsers with one line for text and the rest an ad that doesn't move.  How far we've come from things normally being improvements in web design.  Sorry, side rant now turned off.

I noticed this a long time ago and blocked the element below with a browser extension.

Very helpful, thanks!  Not sure why I didn't think of that (I did try unsuccessfully to do that on that other news website, but not here).

My extension came up with the same code you show when I told it to block that element, it's so much better now.  I do still have a very thin box that shows up under the pull down choices (OGR Forum, Subscribe, Digital Libraries, etc...) that I wanted to retain, but I can live with that, it's barely noticeable.

I'm a bit curious why I only noticed it today.  Maybe I was a bit behind in FF updates.... thanks again!

Just to chime in:

That's the only post I see like that.    I am pretty sure it has to do with the length of the post title.  When it wraps, the software does goofy things.

The easy system wide fix is for crowdstack to implement a Thread Title character limit.

Edited to add:

I see there is a 255 character limit.   I just did a test topic and inserted 220 characters into the subject line. I navigated away then back to the test topic I created.    I got the same bad result as the original poster here did.

I then tested reducing the topic title to 150, and the issue went away.

No worries I have deleted the topic so you don't see a topic called "hhhhhhh"  out to 150 characters

I'm no longer worried about it since I have my solution, but it does happen to all threads without using the extension(for me).  Note above it's there (when I scroll below the top), but it's much less of a noticeable effect.

Just an FYI, don't have anyone go to effort on my account.  I'm all OK now .

Thanks for all the responses.
