The Lionel 2016 Track and Power Catalog is out-can the new American Flyer Catalog be far behind?

Care to speculate as to what will be offered this year?

My guesses, based on the emphasis on FlyerChief in the Track and Power Catalog,  is that there will be a new FlyerChief offering (or the promise of one), perhaps a diesel.  I don't think there will be much in Legacy other than selling off back inventory.

I m guessing, based on nothing but past experience is that there will still be repaints of rolling stock from the Gilbert Era,, with one or two items being remakes of hard to find "classic" paint schemes, a few fantasy schemes, and a few prototypical paint schemes that were never done before.  I doubt we will see any new "scale" rolling stock other than selling off existing inventory.

Dare I say it-I hope for a new operating car-possibly one never done before, but, realistically I think we'll get just repaints of cars Lionel has done before.

My absolute "wanna have" is a redo of the exploding boxcar-just because I really wanted one as a kid-and originals  are all but impossible to buy at present-and too rare to operate if you do find one.  Oh well, a boy can dream, can't he?

I'm not gonna hazard a guess about what MTH will do this year -except that it will be done slowly and cautiously.

Acording to Nassau Hobbies the catalogs will be out the end of this month.  I talked with Matt A from Lionel in November and he had advised no new tooling will be present in this catalog.  There will be "new items" however.   In looking at the T&P catalog, unless I missed it, I did not see any new items to expand the flyer fastrack line from what had already been catalogued.

This is the least optimistic I have been about a flyer catalog sence they started doing the separate catalogues for S gauge in 2012.  I hope I end up being pleasantly surprised.

I see the docksider (or what looks like a docksider) on the screen shot with the countdown clock on Lionel's website.  Why could they not do a GP, Baldwin, northern, EP5, PA or Berkshire for a RTR set with FlyerChief?  That docksider is just a little pathetic when you consider its the only choice for a RTR set (short of the PE set).

Comeon MTH, S has been lacking a good RTR set for quite sometime.

What a shame, this subtopic was always all a buzz leading up to catalog time until the past two years.  Hard to get excited now.  I really hope there is something in there that surprises us all.

There may be other locomotives "Chiefed," we'll know on the 20th.

But, it's hard to generate "buzz" when products take 1-2 years to be released (or are cancelled at the last minute) and when they finally come out, sometimes lack cataloged features.

Still, I look forward to looking through the next catalog, but seriously doubt there'd be anything I'd be interested in buying.
