I hope to see some new items or schemes never seen before. Here are some suggestions…………………………..

What is needed for the single-door and double-door box cars are more types of doors to match the actual doors.
There can be numerous types of Plug-Doors made for the double-door box cars.
New injection molds have to be made so that there is a variety of accurately fitting doors for all the O scale box cars or boxcars.

ELGIN, JOLIET & EASTERN paint scheme on Premier and RailKing gondolas.

The majority of items above don't require new tooling and were never offered yet by MTH. The new PS-1 would require minor changes to the door area. A couple other items require new tooling.
I stay away from non-scale - detailed Railking cars. Never could understand the point of them since there are so many other companies with 027 items flooding the market.
Yes. 1997 offering of old Proto problem units.
I prefer all updated diesels going forward with PS3. Don't like or ever seen the red PC scheme.
No interest in the others, but I sure do like the EJ&E car, sharp looking graphics!!! I could use some "other RR" names on my layout besides SAL and ACL.
I didn't have the patience to wait. I made my own.
Old RS-27 with PS-1. Upgraded with ERR Cruise Commander and Railsounds. It had the red logo. I didn't like it either. Removed the red logo and put white logos in their place. Weathered the crap out of it. I found out, after I was finished, that 2406 had the black dip scheme with no lettering or side logos. It would be easy to change the numbers and logos to create a custom scheme. I don't think any two RS-27 had the same paint scheme. Don't hold your breath waiting for MTH to re-release the PC scheme again. If they did, it would be Railking Scale.
I doubt that any of the manufacturers will ever produce a scale PC transfer caboose. Too limited in the selection of road names. If anybody does it will be MTH with various fantasy schemes. I built a N9 transfer caboose using the chassis from a 40' PS-1 boxcar. I figured that this is the only way I would ever see, or have one of these cars. I would gladly take a production N9 or N11 model if they were made.
Tom
Very nice Tom! You are right on.
I made just about everything that's never offered. I generally have a laugh when I see the OEM's copy my models years later.
This PRR mallet would be nice!
or better yet the USRA 2-10-2 HEavy Santa FE!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...Santa_Fe_diagram.jpg
good for: the PRR, B&lLE, CB&Q, Erie, and the C&S!
For more modern the Amtrak Viewliners and the Angelofranco/ROHR Turboliners!
Mark - I’m now convinced that we will never see most of this stuff. It indicates that the uninformed marketers and buyers seem to dominate the hobby. Offerings and trends continue to be discouraging with each new catalog.
Baltimore & Ohio PS-2-CD 4427 Cubic Foot 3-bay covered hopper
Built in 2-70 or February 1970
B&O Chessie System ACF Center Flow (2700) 2980 Cu Ft 2-bay covered hoppers, know as 2-bay Centerflow Hoppers in the catalogs.
Thar PRR Mallet is the ugliest locomotive I've seen in a long time. Pure and gritty railroading! Not sure everyone would appreciate it, but I like it.
St. Louis San Francisco PS-2-CD 4427 cu. ft. 3-bay covered hoppers in 1967 scheme.
Andrew
What is missing are the Central Vermont modern 50' box cars. They were painted medium blue with white markings. The CV box cars were built by FMC.
I would buy the D&SL articulated, but there is only one of me. Nothing else pictured above elicits other than yawns. Since most would require new molds, horrors!, none of it will be ever offered.
MTH made a few premier MLB team boxcars. If they made all 30 teams, I'd but them all. Also, the MLB ALand NL SD90 engines that were prototyped but never made would be sweet to double head and pull all 30 team boxcars with. Maybe sell all as a set with a price discount. Premier line if course!
I like the 6222 and PE street car. I'm a sucker for portholes.
The PE would match the logo sticker on my old PE breaker box too, lol.
Great topic Steve, nice going! A Baldwin double headed passenger locomotive, Jersey Central 2000-2005.
I would like to see a Western Maryland Potomac (4-8-4) in the Premier line. Some of the tooling already exists. Also a I-2 Western Maryland class I-2 Decapod (1111-1130).
I also want to add these paint schemes for the models MTH ALREADY HAS:
ALCo PA-1 Demo A/B
Rsd4 Demo unit [yes its in the SF zebra striped scheme!]
ALCo Fa-2 A-B-B-A Demonstrators [MTH"Marketters"once told me this dip scheme is BLAND and wouldn't sell!
Rs11 Demonstrators
Rebuilt Sd40 demo unit
BLW Transfer unit
EMD f7 A-B-A demo units
SD50 Demo unit
C-liner demo units
Postcard- artists rendition of an SD60M demo unit
GP40 Lease unit
EMD f7 A-B test beds!
SOO LINE DD, Muffin has 4 left just out from Atlas -
https://mrmuffinstrains.com/pr...sion-3-rail-soo-line About as close as we will get to the photo.
The other schemes have been offered in the past on other cars by Weaver.
Anybody offer where that CNJ photo was taken? Possibly on Reading somewhere near Philly?
Never saw this photo before.
Thanks.
Walter M. Matuch
PS: I'd buy the A-B 'babyface if MTH made. Use Alco FA chassis and trucks, tooling modification from Centipedes. Make in CNJ (3 different schemes blue/orange - green/yellow stripes and all green) - MoPac - NYC prototypical and then PRR , SAL, NdeM and UP fantasy (logical too)

Weaver did something strange with the Grand Trunk Western 40' double-door box car graphics.
Andrew
All of Weavers graphics were undersized in later years printed by a local supplier. I alerted Joe but the issue was never resolved.
I never saw the Weaver Models Grand Trunk Western 40' double-door box cars in person, just the catalog approximate photos.
Did those GTW 40' dd box cars actually make it to production, or were they cancelled like so many other cars I was hoping to get from Weaver?
In 1969 Pullman-Standard built waffle box cars for the Green Bay & Western. Green Bay and Western waffle box cars have not been produced yet.
Pullman-Standard built a second series of waffle box cars for the Green Bay & Western that were all yellow and had a black lettering herald.
Make new Plug-doors for the PS-1 50' double-door box car in order to produce these Norfolk and Western plug-door 50' double-door box cars.
There were 1000 of these Norfolk & Western plug-door 50' double-door box cars. They were common in freight trains during the 1970's and 1980's.
Notice that the used deep blue on the early cars and nearly black-blue on the later cars.
Andrew
Chicago & North Western PS-2-CD 4427 CU FT 3-bay covered hoppers built in the 1960's.
Safety Yellow paint scheme applied in the 1980's.
The correct letter and correct number style would be great on these CNW PS-2-CD 3-bay covered hoppers.

MTH 64' Woodside Coaches in "Staten Island" (SIRT) paint including minor modifications suggested by E. Bommer in his OST Mar/Apr '09 article, pages 39-45. Easiest modifications would be inserts for the 4 end and 4 side end windows and the simple paint job. Those wishing to go further with Ed's modifications would have that much less to do.
Three cars with an SIRT camelback would make a swell Premier RTR set. Pull the lead driver, axle, plus associated running gear from their standard camelback, plug the hole and paint her up.
I don’t think they would sell many of those above but the MU & BMT sets in several colors would sell out along with another version of the S2 ALCO.
We need the re-painted S2 9027 large letter S I version with SIRT WHITE stencil logo as shown. 9027 was off to the front side. I believe the blue is a shade lighter than other B&O versions. This was a special paint and lettering scheme by the local Clifton shop!
Well, Steve, I've asked for a rerun of "your" MTH SIRT S-2 so many times I figured I'd have to do something different. I'm working on Ed's conversion of a Woodsided coach, right now, with a few of my own shortcuts and modifications - having already created one "parts car" due to my incompetence and ineptitude.
Whenever I feel the need a Island-ese language skills refresher, I give this one a listen to hear "the tawkin' an' everything"... Cuz Oiy was a Staten Oilandah foah twenty yeahz, myself:

Of course, your videos set at Grasmere and DeJonges are without equal for realism and humor. I'll never forget the first time I saw them, I had to watch again and again to convince myself that it was O Gauge! Amazing work!
Tanks Rapid, LOL!
I fit a lot into a 3' wide space. No need for full bloated O structures when you can achieve a better result with flats and backs. Since a commuter sees the back of structures on the ROW, I model everything backwards. Keep it simple, no need for the cluttered look.
O sales are not as brisk as years ago, maybe MTH will step it up a notch and do something....... BIG LEAGUE.
I would like to see more demo items from models already existing!
ALCo Rs11 demos
ALCo PA-1 demo
ALCO/MLW/GE in the early CN scheme
ALCO Fa-2 A-B-B-A!
ALCo S2 Shop Switcher
ALCO Rs2 Demo in interstate colors?
ALCo RSD4/5 Demonstrator in SF Zebra Stripe Paint scheme!
GE U25B demo
GE Dash 9 Demo [ Lionel did this scheme on their OVersized GE which didn't sell well cause it was OVERSIZED! not about the scheme]
Some FM demo models:
H-15-44 in UP colors
FM H-16-44
FM C-Liners A-A
and of course the remaining EMD demonstrators that have yet to be done in 3 rail!
3rd just announced these in 3 rail. How about it Atlas O and/or MTH?
EMD SD80 [ Conrail picked the two demo jobs up!]
Self Explanatory
EMD E3 [ PRobably painted in KCS executive colors]
This trio was responsible in putting the proverbial "nail in the coffin" on the Steam vs. Diesel debates of the 1960-1990's
Lionel announced a Tri-Clopes Sd60M so I need your help in pushing Lionel to do this scheme in their second run before the Lionel product managers do thier infamous- hit and run-marketing tactic!
and some Faux paint schemes but worthy of production mentions:
MTH - PLEASE reconsider demo "dip" Paint jobs!!
For Lionel since they are bringing out a Tri-Clopse wide cab
the "controversial"DD40" Lionel did a DD35 and in some faux schemes so why not?
Even in Red too!
Well, perhaps if I add my vote to the multitude stumping for the Baldwin Babyface then MTH corporate will become terrified that I'm losing interest in an array of SIRT ALCo S-2s and rush to production. The only O Gauge Babyface was Lionel's Centipede - pretty to look at but who has 2 degree curves on their layout? As has been stated elsewhere, Lionel has the basic tooling for the cab and the trucks, therefore, all that's needed more new tooling for the body or to just chop off some of the "pede" in "centipede" and run with it.
While I'm at it, I might as well add my voice to the chorus clamoring for the Baldwin DT-6-6-2000. I grew up with the DTs... Ooops, that doesn't sound right. Having grown up along "The J", I can remember those units, resplendent in their orange and green, on the road jobs rolling through the corn fields and long to have one even it is only for static display.

This is a rebuilt locomotive with EMD 1200h.p. engines under modified SW hoods. All of the J's transfer switchers were rebuilt between 1956 and 1962.

Thanks for the additional information, the modification is obvious - once you know the secret. They were such magnificent, homely beasts! An O Gauge version would be delightful.

Tom, can you tell me where you found the 70's era barcode reader under the window?
Thanks very much.

I would love it if MTH would offer LIRR passenger car sets consisting of coaches only! The have done it once or twice before...why did they stop?
Need to be more specific as to which style & scheme you are requesting. There are many.
I would like see MTH buy the all the Islandmodelworks items and modify them for 3r. They would be HUGH sellers!
LIRR, PATH, SIRT, SUBS...............................................................................................................................................................
I run LIRR steam and diesel (up to Worlds Fair). Very partial to the RK 60' heavyweights...so I can do tuscan, tichy, goodfellow, etc.
As far as Island Model Works goes...I love that idea! Make as set with a Goodfellow RS-1 and five P72's...now that's a set!

The ACI plates are Microscale O scale decals 48-650. The Lube plates are Microscale 48-5002.

Modern buildings!!! Not everyone models 1920-1960.
Thank you Tom, I always liked those 70's era ACIs.

I would like to see this in o gauge.Or this one.
Would like to see more of the later B&O paint scheme. Being realistic to the fact that we haven't seen much new tooling from MTH in the last few years. I would like to see the following B&O engines with tooling they already have, SD35's, GP38's and F3/F7's. Also wouldn't mind seeing Atlas or Lionel doing a few SD40's
The Premier O scale AIRSLIDE 50' covered hoppers have not been produced in all the possible ATSF Santa Fe paint schemes. They need to make more Santa Fe freight car schemes to run in trains behind the Santa Fe diesel locomotives.
Andrew
Denver & Rio Grande Western PS-2-CD 4427 high-sided 3-bay covered hoppers in the 1968 paint scheme have not been produced.
Frisco black and imitation gold GP7's, with one road number having a steam generator, and another road number lettered for Quanah, Acme & Pacific.
-PRR Merchandise Service Phase 1 X-29B boxcar (40').
-PRR Merchandise Service Phase 1 X-41B boxcar (50').
-PRR Merchandise Service Phase 1 X-40B boxcar (60').
This is MTH only, not Lionel.
In reading the thread so far, 3rd rail is offering Alco PAs in the demonstrator scheme and the demonstrator F7 will be shipping late August / early September. 3rd Rail also did the FP7 a while back in Southern, but was in the Tuxedo scheme. A rerun of those with some new road names would be fun someday.
Personally, I'd be happy with a truly accurate CNJ coach, baggage coach, RPO and open end observation. Never been done in O scale before outside of some Walthers kits that are long out of production. 70' cars with AAR 4 wheel trucked cars are not common at all in model form, but were very common in service.
Then we could actually get the first scale Blue Comet set ever offered in O.
In Weavers waining years, they came out with a 4 bay high sided hopper. I hope that Lionel releases them with the correct graphics and numbers this time around!

Many of you know I'm no fan of 3-rail stuff, but I'd for sure buy an accurate model of this in 3-rail if it ever got released! This is a loco with a family history as it ran in my parent's hometown for several years and later, it's the first cab ride I ever got (at age 11). As it's a well-known excursion locomotive running today, I'm sure it'd sell well:
Better yet, also make a different version of the same loco as my parents knew it in the 50s and 60s (on the tender top was different). Everyone calls this loco "Southern 630" but I'll always know here as "ET&WNC 207":
falconservice posted:
Yup, I think they could throw a large plug door on those. Even make it into a combo door car.
I believe that was the original MTH plan but haven't seen any variations yet. Don't think those sold well due to the high price which might have made them back off. Only the true O modelers acquired them.
There is a needed part for the Premier O scale auto carriers. It is not huge, but it would make a large difference for the application of railroad graphics.
The Premier corrugated siding auto carrier could have corrugated panels with no perforations like on actual auto carriers.
The panels can be sold seperately with railroad graphics or no graphics.
Look at these panels for the BNSF, CSX, and Norfolk Southern.
Andrew
Lionel needs to correct a horrible wrong, a slight that only the divine can forgive! Their great invention, the Command Control Industrial Relief Crane and accompanying Service Car, has been issued for roads from ATSF (2 paint schemes) to UP with many others in between, some of which never had such equipment but the pair has never been issued for Baltimore and Ohio. And don't tell me that Chessie (B&O) and CSX count. They don't.
One of the few videos of cranes working at a wreck that I've been able to find on the internet is one of two B&O outfits cleaning up the results of an "undesired impact event" at Ravenna, OH - very cool:
https://youtu.be/0zP8qIZpUJs?t=263
Unless I'm mistaken, other notable omissions are CN, CNW, IC, GN, NP, CB&Q, MILW, N&W, and NS, all of which have large followings based on the number of locomotives produced for those lines. I'm sure I've missed some pretty obvious lines, too.

Not many layouts can support these limited beasts.

Milwaukee Road versions of the EMD GP38-2 by MTH.
MTH has demonstrated a willingness to build road-specific models, as demonstrated by their recent Milwaukee Road GP30 complete with recycled ALCo trucks - I had to have one of each of the two road numbers offered. They makes a terrific GP38-2 but to the best of my knowledge they've never made a Milwaukee Road version.
The MILW rostered sixteen units were delivered in two groups, the first order of six units without dynamic braking in 1973, and the second order of ten units with dynamic in 1974. All were equipped with switch engine size fuel tanks to reduce unit weight for operation on poorly maintained branch lines. Here is a great view of three "first order" units rolling across the now largely vacant RoW between Harlowton and Lewistown, Montana:
https://youtu.be/zD9TYI48T8w?t=103
K-line issued models in 2002, one with and one without dynamic but with what appear to be oversize fuel tanks:

MTH has O scale tank cars in the Premier and European line that look similar to this tank car. They could put together the closest replica from the parts available at the factory to make this LIQUID AIR tank car.

This is a good thread. Let me add to the demand for 60s-70s trucks.
I'd like a Railking scale C424/C425, and/or a U30B and a correct-nose GP18/GP20, but I won't hold my breath.
If we're trying to make something new out of existing tooling, how about 40 foot boxcars without roofwalks, and with cut-down ladders? IIRC they were removed from older cars after 1966.

MTH has consistently produced short line locomotives and rolling stock over the years .... for which many of us are grateful, I'm sure.
I would like to see MTH produce some steam locomotives and passenger cars for the Chesapeake Beach Railroad which took beachgoers from Washington DC to Chesapeake Beach on the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County, Md.
It would be nice if MTH would produce some locomotives of the Washington Terminal Company which did all the switching at DC's Union Station. WTC had a nice fleet of switchers both in steam and early diesel including Alco RS1s, end cab switchers, and GP7s. Atlas O did a limited run of the WTC Alco RS1 number 46 about 10 years ago, however they are very rare. I've never seen another manufacturer do any other WTC equipment. They also had a big hook and boom car which would be nice to see in production.
Interurbans ( or doodlebugs ) for the Washington Baltimore and Annapolis Railroad would be nice as well.
A Maryland and Pennsylvania doodlebug ( which the Ma & Pa did own ).
An MTH Patapsco and Back Rivers caboose to match their VO1000 locomotive. ( although I don't think the PBR ever really owned a caboose )
That's all I can think of for the moment.
Can the guys running MTH have the people in China produce this specific caboose type in this Grand Trunk Western scheme, please.
Thank you.
