Okay, that is a HUGE disappointment! If they are gonna charge me $600 for a diesel, then they better include a little orange chip that is the standard set by them with the Legacy system! For the love of God Lionel, too many steps in the wrong direction, in fact you are so far off track it won't be long before you have to add the motor yourself!

Original version...

Yes new normal. It's no big deal. It takes less than 30 seconds to enter the info manually or less than 2 seconds with a sensor track. The Orange module became redundant.

Less grumpy version... Yes Craig it is the new normal for Legacy engines.  Lionel has expressed that the Orange module is quite redundant and is gently suggesting that the sensor track or manually entering the information can be equally effective in getting the information into your Cab2.  If you or any other member should require assistance in doing so please reach out to me or one of the other helpful forum members willing to help.

(Edited for less "grumpiness "). LOL. While my original post was IMO not grumpy, just to the point, I have issued a more mellow and less to the point version. Please put some mellow music and read along.

what is the big deal?

the chip did not really do anything that a few key strokes can not do.

you can also use a old chip and then change the name with a few less strokes.

if us old non computer people can type here, inputting the info on the legacy handheld is not much different. imo

Ever think the module's processor was obsoleted by it's manufacturer and there either is no replacement, a replacement is difficult to obtain or is expensive enough not to continue with?  Or a replacement processor requires too much re-engineering to make it work properly?

Such things happen in the electronics world.

Rusty

There is no processor in the orange module just memory chips. It is similar to a USB memory stick. You can buy black ones and make your own or just enter the info I manually and get on with life. I have lots of TMCC locos in my legacy base that require manual entry. Not a huge deal.

The orange module has gone to the same place as engine-specific crew talk, smoke fluid packed with locos,  and even those cute wire handrails on the Polar Express that are now molded on. A dollar saved is a dollar gained for Howard Hitchcock. But, as long as it's in an orange and blue box, keep buying

If you think the lack of the orange module is bad, it was stated in the Legacy User's Group on Friday Morning that when they run out of black modules, there will be no more writable modules!  Makes you wonder how we'll program upgrades to the base and remote!

When that happens, just remember this post, it may come in handy.

Max,

You are way too you to be a grouchy old man. There are too many of us already on the forum. Also if you are paying list for a Lionel diesel ask your mother to teach you how to shop.
