hi first post. has anyone had the experience of wires melting inside of these locomotives? I placed a brand new train on the track, and at first all seemed good, but shortly thereafter while i was loading up the legacy train info, smoke started emanating from the engine, (not from the stacks) and I could smell burning plastic or rubber, just before the zw circuit breaker light went on. I quickly took the train off the tracks still smoking, and after the initial fustration of finding my brand new engine was a lemon, curiousity got the better of me, and I carefully removed the cover. What i found was several of the wires melted together, leading from the control switches to the main legacy board, and those wires in under the smoke unit. Im pretty sure Im going to have to send this train back to lionel, but I'm curious to find out if there replacement wiring harnesses available, that's assuming the electronics and smoke unit are not already fried.

It seems since I bought it from Ebay from a non lionel authorized seller , it's not covered under warranty. Im probably the only one that didn't know about this, but Im posting this for the benefit of others who might not be aware. Also, apparently I can't get any parts that are not listed under replacement parts on lionel website. So this experience taught me multiple lessons, maybe someone else can learn from it.
Thought you guys might be interested in an update. Turns out my story looks like it's going to have a happy ending after all. On Weds I went back to the original seller, told him the story, and I got a replacement via fed ex today. It's a different road number but same train. Tomorrow will be the inaugural run. Keeping my fingers crossed.
