New Lionel Legacy Berkshire is beautiful but dtdr (darned thing don’t run). Tried with DCC Digitrax DCS 50... after successfully changing the address (to 765, the prototype NKP number), and trying multiple variations of loco program/run switch position along with both DCS 50 program/run positions, the only loco function is sound and lights. Taking a cue from the Owners Manual, tried an AF 4B AC transformer... same result: sound and lights... no movement. Tried a Bachmann DC power pack... lights come on around 5v sounds start around 7.5v and the loco responds with movement around 10v. The loco manual (page 4) says the Digitrax DCS50 system was tested with the Lionel decoder. Any ideas on how to (really) run the Berk with DCC ? Thanks !

Mick:
I have a similar problem. Works with MRC Train Power 6200 DC (only Legacy locomotive I have that works with this DC) supply) and MTH Z 1000 AC power supply as advertised. I have an NCE system Power Cab. I have access to correct manufacturer ID, can change the locomotive address and all functions work, but it will not respond to the throttle. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Roger
I use a digital 51 with 500d wireless throttle with out issue
Learning more about the AC supply. While the accompanying instruction manual makes no mention of AC “smooth” vs “chopped” sine wave power differences, the vintage AC 4B I tried to use (apparently) produces a “smooth” wave, while the new Lionel CW-80 (for example) produces a “chopped” sine wave power. So I’m trying to locate a (new) power “chopped wave” transformer to test with this loco. Still no answer on the DCC issue but will keep the topic open until I learn an answer !
Have 2 new Berkshires. Will a little tweaking run flawlessly. I remember when I had s helper controller hooked up my TMCC and legacy engines didn’t play well together. If you are using DC in line with other power sources (AC). Could this confuse the engine? Maybe Gun runner John or Carl Tuveson could chime in
Mick i think that the digitrax 50 uses there 15v ac pack 3 amp the 51 use a dc pack there is one on ebay right now you dont see them often and i believe its the one made for that unit its a digitrax 15 volt 3 amp that plugs right inthey dont make that pack any more
Thanks, Doug-Sr... you are correct. Measured the track current at 15v AC. A friend has a Digitrax 51... will see if he can assist in testing ! Finding it frustrating the Lionel Instruction Manual says the loco was “tested” with the Digitrax 50... as if it worked for them. Maybe it was truly “tested” and didn’t run for them either ? ! !
All Lionel newer Flyer engines are chop sine wave units. I don't know when that started, but it has never been mentioned in their manuals. It is mentioned in the online videos about their products. It make their smoke output much better for both diesel and steam.
mick that mite be so, the digitrax is a good unit although a little hard to understand
I suspect yours will need warranty service. Mine runs without issue on my Digitrax DCC system. I suggest you call customer service.

It is designed to run on any AC transformer. The chopped sine wave is only to maximize smoke output.
BTW - Do not use a 4B or any vintage transformer with modern electronic locomotives without adding a circuit breaker between your transformer and track such as those from Dallee.
I’ve emailed the Lionel Service Center and they have responded with their “standard” response... they’ll be in touch. That your Berkshire responds to your Digitrax supports your suggestion about warranty service needed for my loco. Thanks ! Mick
Just got word from a Lionel Customer Service Rep they’d like to take a look at it. Will FedEx it to them tomorrow. They also suggested it may take 2-3 weeks, so I’ll be on radio silence until it’s returned. Thanks to Lionel !
good luck Mick hope they get it fixed soon
It’s back ! FedEx just returned NKP 765 in the original box... letter inside says “one of the connectors to board was misplaced”. Not only was that fixed, but the cosmetic ladder on pilot was replaced with a new pilot. Yeah to Lionel’s Service Center in NC !
runs fine on dc (wow is the sound LOUD) and would make the prototype 765 PROUD ! Thanks Lionel !
