I may have to spring for the LC+ 2.0 Docside Switcher, $249 MSRP for all the features is a really good price!  I see the PRR one in my future!   I'm eager to see how well all this is supported for that price, I hope to be impressed!

I also was really impressed...  lots of fun for great price...  i am thinking rio grande...

I see that once again Lionel missed the party with the Shark Fin car. Should have been painted up in Jimmy Buffett "Fins" and with sound playing the song!

And add another 100.00 to the price.

And the kids they are trying to aim it at would all know/care who Jimmy Buffett is, right?  (I'm thinking no).

Given the amount of shark attacks in the news recently, maybe Lionel should have come out with a Human Research & Rescue Set...

I'm thinking you would be shark bite wrong! It's unbelievable how popular Jimmy is and those kids have Parrothead parents!

Finally got a copy. It's a pretty good catalog but I'm close to saturation so not much for me but I'm sure I can find something.

I was hoping for a copula cam Polar Express caboose. The I12 will be on my list but if the Lionel folks want to surprise us with a copula caboose I'll take one of those too.

Those definitely look like a great product John.  I'm looking to get the BEDT 15 Docksider as is a coworker after I showed him.  We were both amazed at the price point of these for what you get.  I enjoy my conventional docksider as well as my basic Lionchief Christmas one, so this should be a great product if done correctly.

A surprising amount of HO in this catalog. I am surprised that Lionel is jumping into HO again as big as they are. Both previous attempts (1950s and 1970s) failed. Maybe the third time is the charm?

Try fourth time. Lionel did s stint in the late 2990's/ turn of the century with the UP "big blow".

I also noticed many of this "new Lionel  HO" looks s lot like model power stuff. Did Lionel aquire or aquire the rights to Mfg former Model power stuff?

Sure you don't mean GRANDparents?

You can add those Parrotheads into the mix too!

Simple question.  Would the products be high quality if they did use their tooling?  Don’t know much about HO except it hard to read the print on stock across the table.

I’m not trying to be biased, but IMHO model power is the lowest quality detail you can buy in HO. If Lionel did indeed buy the tooling or molds or whatever, they are not very high quality. I believe they have some sort of deal because the Army train or military passenger train are awfully close to the model power version. If you want Ho scale that’s high quality, don’t buy the new Lionel’s.

From the Volume 2 catalog HO description for rolling stock, "rugged design for hands-on play," Lionel is definitely not pretending to match other high quality HO manufacturers. It appears to be more "toy" fashioned, let the smaller hands pick it up and play, not worrying about fragile and prototypical  models.

enjoy your trains...

Yeah George, that one really made my jaw drop. I didn't think it was from smoking though.

Yeah, I'm thinking something much, much more serious.

Wow, just wow.  And at $45 a pop MSRP, too.

I simply don't understand it.

TCA, NMRA, PRRT&HS Modeling the PRR Panhandle Division between 1948-1957.

Heres what I liked:
- LC 2.0 GG1 Fast Freight Set
- PRR TOFC Flatcar (GG1 Set Add-On)
- LC 2.0 BEDT 15
- LC 2.0 Granite Run Quarry Set
- SP Disconnet Passenger Cars
- Ferdinand Magellan Pullman
- HO Reading Hopper #89252
- HO N&W Hopper #95338
- HO SP Covered Hopper #400285
- HO UTLX Tank Car #78214
- HO Nickel Plate Fast Freight Set

The tracks ahead are rough, but I can still see a bright future for the hobby of model railroading. We've just got to show our youth that the hobby of railroading is just as fun as any video game.

Well, now that I've seen the whole catalog, there are a few things that would fit with my layout.

I may actually have to break down and get a Big Boy this time. Much as I would like the 4005 (duh), it will probably be 4014, as my rule for steam is, I have to have seen it under steam, in the Twin Cities.  Probably going to have to modify a few spots on the layout to be able to run it. The layout was designed before anyone made a Big Boy.

Gotta keep working on my excursion set, and the Experience baggage car. The Amtrak camera dome is a must have. It'll go great with my rainbow Empire Builder. It'll be a game time decision on the GN / BN F7's and the B unit. They are pretty, two of my favorite colors.

No freight this time, but I have plenty of that.

For me this catalog is high buck low volume. To each his own.

BN / GN F7's and both B units for a sweet ABBA and probably the SF 0-6-0T.

I didn't even see the second B unit, in its rather dull NP Mainstreeter paint. I much prefer the two tone green of the North Coast Limited. It would help break up all the green. Hmmm, my wallet is barking already.

Just a few things but it has certainly been a few years since I bought anything new from Lionel:

  • BEDT 0-6-0 Dockside Switcher
  • Bush 41 Presidential Boxcar
  • HO Long Island Caboose
  • Ferdinand Magellan Pullman Observation Car (cannot seem to find a dealer taking preorders for it though)

Whats up with the NYC Empire State Express pass cars (83617 & 83618) on page 58-59 ?   Aren't those the same two pass cars from 2 pack 83616 (2017 Signature Catalog) ?

Yes they are but there was some kind of problem in the past with them. When I mean problem I mean not the product itself but the buyers. If think this was discussed earlier in this thread.

If you think some movie houses, or restaurant franchises have large licensing fees, you haven't experienced getting a license for Jimmy Buffet stuff.  I haven't personally, but associates in the music biz have, and Jimmy makes a ton of money off of licensing.   Smart businessman.

Well, I looked at the catalog online.  Ordered the Challenger Expansion Pack, Baggage Promontory and yes... The camera equipped vista dome.  So far the set is complete and I know I would want it later.  Enough watching auction sites after the release.  Took me 2 years to complete my MTH 20th Century passenger cars.

I was disappointed no C&O wooden boxcar.  It will look good with my Allegheny and Coal Hoppers.  My gut says, next catalog.  The good news is that I am in for less than $1,000.  Been a long time.  No motive required.  That helped.
