Does anyone have any complaints about the new MTH r17 Subways. Just received mine yesterday and the build quaility seems to be pretty cheap, the Engine Unit gets very hot on the top, and the couplers stick open. Anyone else with these issues?

Paulie, this was a common problem with the MTH Railking sets. Some even had problems with melting roofs from the extreme heat (one of mine did this). What you need to do is place a strip of reflective tape on the inside of the roof, particularly above the lights. This will prevent any damage. Some of us even removed a few windows, or re-applied them so they would look half way open, to allow greater air circulation.

Barry why do you feel the need to post these wise little remarks all the time? You are not a board moderator, mind your own business. It's bad enough they let you get away with this all the time. Maybe your next book should be on Sarcasm?

MCD4X4, since you seem to be an expert in O Gauge Subways, in your opinion, Lionel or MTH?

any specfic reason why MTH over Lionel i just got the lionel r16 and its fantastic except for the windows and of course little expensive for a subway wanted to see what your take is

I received my R 17 set in February and haven't had an issue with the way it runs, its lights, or excessive heat. The only isue I had was the color. (which I mentioned in another thread.) The set was advertised as RED but it arrived MAROON. I do like the maroon and decided to keep it but I was disappointed that it did not arrive in the advertised RED color.

Just be happy that you didn't get the r142a set haha. I was going to get it but I said no after all the defects/inaccuracies I saw.
