The Premier O Scale oval opening or opera opening 73' Center Beam Flat Cars have not been produced in the TTZX TT TRAILER TRAIN graphics and paint scheme when they were built between 1985 and 1989.

The first run of the Premier O scale BRITISH COLUMBIA RAILWAY Center Beam flat cars quickly sold and there has not been any new cars made with new numbers. The British Columbia Railway had hundreds of these Thrall Car Center Beam flat cars for lumber loads.

MidSouth Rail Corporation had a fleet of Gunderson built Center Beam flat cars. They looked nearly identical to the Thrall Car Center Beam flat cars.

I would love to see the BCOL scheme. I would also like to see the diagonal braced cars in TTX paint. I have enough opera window cars .

Yes, you are correct. Unfortunately for me Just like the last 6 years- no new models, just updated electronics [PS 3.0] and different paint schemes so these MTH catalogs are no longer exciting for me as they once were.

Just asking, are people sure that there are no new locomotives in the 2019 catalog?

Based on the comments here, I feel that they  should leave the O Gauge market, except for European engines, and concentrate on S (best compromise between Ho and O) Ho and G scale offerings.

very little interest in the same old stuff but understand the shrinking of interest in model trains

What do you think.

I truly don’t believe the market is shrinking. Is it growing, not sure, but when go into my local hobby shop, they always have new stuff and are definitely ramping up for the Christmas holiday.

I agree with others that have posted here...  While this is a great forum, I don’t believe it is a good indicator for the O-Scale hobby as a whole.

I live next to the former Grand Rapids & Indiana, Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central rail line. I do not want to purchase any more PRR or PC cars or locos. A limited amount of the GR&I wood freight cars might be interesting in O scale.

Well I for one can go for some PRR GP9's or someGP7 torpedo tube units. The GP9's 'cause the Legacy units were horribly decorated and no one has made the PRR GP7 Torpedo Tubes of which there were 3 of them #8551-#8553.

Odd thoughts here, on so many levels.

I am a big admirer of S-scale, but, alas, that is mostly what S-scale has - admirers, not customers. I've never quite figured that out. HO is too small for me to want (I can see it just fine) - I can admire HO models and modeling, certainly, but I never want to take it home. The heft factor is important to me. S almost just makes it over the line.

Personally, I would like to see a new scale (which in the past I have called "SO" - between S and O) done in 1:56. This would allow a new gauge (2-rail track, certainly) of 1", and equipment of imposing heft, but a little more spare-bedroom-friendly.

The K-Line (now WBB) "semi-scale" (hate that term) Pacifics and the old K-line Allegheny (they said it was 1:58 on the box) are essentially 1:56. Big enough, heavy enough, reliable enough, but noticeably easier to handle in all ways.

As a modeler of more modern motive power, I would personally like to see two engines manufactured...

GE ET44AC - any number of road names and numbers - but I prefer CSX and NS.

Siemens Charger SC-44. These are super new, I understand, but they seem to be the beginning of a new series of locomotives for North America. MTH could get in on the ground floor.

And so was the HHP-8 that Lionel invested tooling into. Now what would they do with it? Also those Acela sets. The replacement is coming soon  for them as well! What's going to happen with that model too?

I believe that the major manufacturers need to take risks - sometimes more then they are currently - to maintain sales. And I believe that the two locomotives that I have mentioned are viable candidates.

Yes, the HHP’s had problems for Amtrak. This was unfortunate. But a risk Lionel took. They took a risk with the Acela also, though as far as I have read, the problems there stemmed from Lionel’s model. The real Acelas are running fine.  If I am wrong, please correct me.

The SC-44s have sold well past the HHPs to several railroads. And their reliability is being proven every day. As for the ET44s, GE has sold hundreds already. These are both viable models to make.

I see here road names like Rutland, Rf&P, GBW,ETC. Nobody except for a few like you guys care about them. But in this era of train building I doubt you will see many of these names.

Look for more Santa Fe, Pennsy, NYC, these names sell and that is what they will build.

Dave

Dave,

The last MTH catalog was kind enough to offer Premier RF&P E8s and passenger cars as well as the RF&P GP40. Crossing my fingers for the GP7.

The people at MTH have made the RailKing 40' High-Cube Box Cars for numerous railroad in a large variety of graphics. There still has not yet been a RailKing 40' High-Cube Box Car in the Grand Trunk Western paint scheme.

The GTW had 60' High-Cube Box Cars that were very similar to the 40' High-Cube Box Cars. Time for Grand Trunk Western to be offered in 2019.

Times two on the PRR GP9’s.  I would snap up a pair of those in a heartbeat!

Curt

I am always in for a non powered PRR loco.

I think that's negative commentary.  Nobody is forcing us to buy anything.  It's also unrealistic to think Lionel and MTH will have 'x' amount of new tooling in each catalog.  Many of us would be happy to find items in our favorite roadnames we haven't seen before.  New catalogs are one of the highlights of the year for us plain folk.  There is still a thrill turning the pages.

IC fan,  I  wasn't trying to be negative and agree with your comments.  I was just wondering if there is room for all of the players since there is a dwindling interest in trains especially for the younger generations.

Every purchase doesn't have to be a new engine and tender and won't be if the same engines are offered each year.

Mth has done an excellent job with their European offerings and their HO line, especially with all the bells and whistles that they offer and yes turning the pages is a thrill with a new catalog.

You are correct in X amount of tooling but for over 7 Years  NOT ONE new tooled item? REALLY?

I have a 44 ton switcher from the first production run of "new tooling" that was delivered about 2 years ago....
