Re-worked for the 1960's as it should have been.

More Chipper crew sounds & the usual PS3 Quirks. PS3 Headlight issue continues. Should be on upon start up. Press HDLT on remote to turn it on with smoke operating and smoke goes off.

                                                            It all works eventually.

Hey Steve...should be no snowplows on CNJ RS-3 diesels.

Nice weathering job also looks good without the yellow sill safety stripes.

Walter/RMT

I know, trying to hide the lack of detail on RK's. Looks better. Those real scripts we offered were great, wish they would have used them. More happy cookie cutter engineers were chosen instead.

Thanks Joe. Would love to here more about your job doing that diesel.

I did volunteer work up at Black River with my buddy when we were around 16, 17 years old. There was always a lot of stripping and painting work to be done. One day after 1554's body was repainted, we worked on doing the detail work, railings, etc. Had some fun times up there. Got my first steam engine cab ride at Black River. It was the middle of July and a very hot day. Inside the cab was brutal but an experience I will never forget.

Thanks for bringing back some memories with your model of 1554.

Ben -

Probably when PS3 started. I see the RS-11's now have the added features but the price is much higher for them now.

My older LIRR units are just plain. Smoke is a nice addition but I like the lighted marker lights are even better!  I had to add engineers to this unit which is quite easy to do. MTH has them in the RSD.

MTH needs to install dual beam head lamps like Lionel has already for the correct look. Makes a difference. These are brass add on caps with a flange.

SIRT, fantastic work.  Love the addition of the rusted and dented "burn barrel" w/ its bent lid nearby.  Although surprised that the workers placed the burn barrel on a wooden pallet which could easily ignite.  IIRC, the barrel bottom's often rusted out first due to the elements and repetitive heating cycles.  Maybe they thought that by keeping the barrel off the ground it would extend the useful life of the barrel ...not as if there weren't a plentiful supply of 55 gallon drums near a railyard.

Good point.

I will change it. Kept hitting it when taking photos, thus it was placed on the pallet. I was tired of re-gluing it so it was re-positioned as you see it.  Thanks for that observation.

Greetings SIRT,  I saw that picture with the dual beam head lamps and thought to myself "Wow, when did MTH make that change to the molds?"  Then I saw your comment "MTH needs to install dual beam head lamps like Lionel has already for the correct look. Agreed it does make a difference!  Was curious to know where you got the brass add on caps as that is an upgrade I would like to make to an MTH RS-3 I have as well.  Thanks for any guidance you could offer on that.  Really nice upgrades you made!  Cheers, Glenn

Do you remember Al Hollifer(sp?); he volunteered up there around that time and I spent a weekend up there with him once.

Remove 4 shell screws, lift up shell carefully. Note: the RSD model has a front tab in slot design.

You will have to file around the brass flange. Also hand drill the hole. An Exacto knife and rounded file will  be needed as well to enlarge the opening. Paint the 2 holes white and the outside the color needed. Cut a clear disc and glue it over the flange. Snap cap into opening using Elmer's glue. Not an easy project, about 2 hour's ea.
