I am starting construction on an Oil Refinery/Terminal complex. The model will be constructed on a 26 inch wide by 48 inch long base. The operation will be based on the facility receiving process gas-oil from a pipeline. The gas-oil will be stored in the large floating roof tank in the back of the facility. The gas-oil will be heated in a furnace and then sent to the distillation tower. The liquid will go through a heat exchanger and be piped to the finished product storage tanks. A flare will burn off poisonous gas. A control building will sit next to the furnace. A truck loading rack will be located in front of the office. There will be about 25 lights on the model. A pipe rack will run on the right side of the facility.

About 100 tons of steel ( actually about 10 pounds of styrene and abs plastic ) will be used in the model

Thank you Brad, Peter, Johnny, Todd and Pete .

Here are a few more pictures with the two gasoline tanks in place. I will remove and paint the piping and apply stone to the area first.

I also have shown the colors I used on the stairway to make it look like galvanized steel and the colors I used on the inside of the open top tanks to look like rusted, unpainted steel.

Alan,

Boy, Oh Boy, I love seeing your construction photos.

Please consider writing an article for OGR about your project. I am particularly interested in the workings of such a plant and your construction techniques. I think Forumites would love to read about how you plan, develop and finish something so special. Your work is second to none. I think the new Munoz Lines, currently in the development phase, will need to have you do something special. More on the news at 11.

Alan, I Googled E.C. Kraemer Reproductions, but could not find them. Are they on the web, or do you have other contact info ?

Elliot,

I will consider sending something into OGR and would be happy to construct something for your new layout. Thank you.

Here are the latest progress pictures.

The floating roofs were constructed and installed on Tanks 5 and 6 including the rolling ladders.

The pipe bridge was constructed from abs square tubing and set in place. The color represents gunite ( a spray on concrete material that is fireproof)

I will construct the PGO floating  roof tank in the back corner next.
