The subject line pretty much says it all. I like GP9s and RS3s, but I won't be buying any more of them. I like SD45s too but they're really too big for my layout. How about affordable models of the U23B or C424? I know Atlas has made those, but not often and they're hard to find.

Also, I wonder if some of the older small or mid-size Premier engines could become RK engines? GP38s, U25Bs, and Alco switchers were all owned by a lot of railroads. The Premier models are no longer new to the market, but many of us can't buy them because $450 is out of reach. Why not move them down a price point, and make it up in volume?

Just my $.02,

Alan P

The Rail King GP7/GP9 is the former Premier tooling. Can be had for an MSRP of around $300. Also in Rail King were the RS1, NW2 (a little larger than scale), SW1500 and MP15. I think an RS3 was also done. These have been done in Proto-2 and Proto-3, but are built as hi-rail only models. With some rework, they could be 2-railed and details added.

The SD9, SD45, SD60 and C30-7/C628 were also done in Rail King from former Premier tooling.

On the Premier side, the U25B was done in Proto-2 and Proto-3 in both hi-rail and scale-wheeled configurations with sound and smoke, plus the wheel sets can be changed out to switch track types (scale or hi-rail, but I just run my scale wheel units on hi-rail track as-is). They're a bit more pricey, but the Proto-3 versions are also DCC compatible. I liked the U25B's I bought back in '09 (Proto-2) so much that I decided to only buy scale-wheeled MTH diesels from that point on.
