A couple months ago I purchased a new WIU from a MTH dealer for the upcoming holiday season. I started assembling the track layout this weekend as we moved to a new home and it will take time to set up our village in the new space. Once I had the track bugs worked out I decided to pull the WIU out of the plastic wrap and open up the box. Unfortunately, when plugged in, only the Power light illuminates. Reset button has no effect. No wifi signal is being transmitted to connect to regardless of switch position. When plugged in, the TIU and wifi lights briefly illuminate and immediately extinguish, with only the Power light remaining lit.

I called the dealer and was told no one there has any knowledge and I'd have to call back tomorrow. I tried to call MTH and their service department is apparently only open after Noon.

Considering this is a brand new consumer product just removed from the packaging and purchased through a retail dealer, I'm not particularly pleased at getting the runaround - Has anyone here experienced this issue? I assume this is a dead unit and replacement is called for.

Did you make sure to plug the WIU into the proper TIU jack?     Putting it in the wrong jack will cause a component failure that requires  R&R of the part  (de-solder, remove part, place new part, solder).

If you're good with this, it's not hard.  I've done it.

Of course if this isn't a user caused issue, get ahold of MTH.. they will take care of you.

I have an older TIU that uses a serial converter. No confusion there. I was able to speak with MTH support a bit ago. They are referring me back to the dealer.

I'm glad I caught this now instead of December.

Dealer is sending me back to MTH. I'm within 60 days of purchase, so if this ends up requiring more time and money on my part I'll just file a charge back. This is a DOA device new out of the package. In the 40 years my family ran a consumer electronics store, at no point would we have told the customer that they had to contact the manufacturer to resolve a problem. That's just not something a servicing dealer does; that falls into the domain of a generic reseller, which is the impression I was left with after two phone calls to this "dealer".

Dealer support is everything with any brand you buy in the O gauge market.  None of the big manufactures want you to have a bad experience and and they are all more than willing to help when needed but you are right, it really was on the dealer to make this right.  I purchased items from many of the sponsors of this forum and whenever there is a problem they have never let me down.
