Perhaps already mentioned, but it was mentioned by Megan that there will be two new "starter" sets, off the typical schedule, one Southern Pacific and one the Hot Wheels set with orange Fastrack.
It sems fairly clear that Lionel reps asked those present not to share the catalog contents prior to its release to dealers. Not unreasonable nor a problem since knowing about the contents is not a life or death issue .
Between the Lionel 2017 V2 catalog on August 17 and Bond 25 on November 8, 2019, I AM PUMPED!

Alco DH643 - the successful (unlike the Krauss-Maffei) diesel-hydraulic on the SP - nicknamed "alcohaulics", I believe. They could "empty the yard".
Never-done NYC Big Steam - like H-10 Mike, K-5 Pacific, their 2-6-6-2 (yes, they did), 0-8-8-0 hump switcher (yes, they did). This has become my mantra.
GM&O (and other) Baby-Face Baldwins - other than the Centipedes.
All of the above are useless daydreaming, of course. The NYC H-10 and K-5 ideas shouldn't have been this hard to get, but they have been.
It would be great if in the Volume 2 catalog there were O scale 89' flat cars with Auto Racks THAT ARE painted in 1970's and 1980's era Trailer Train schemes with auto rack schemes for the Norfolk and Western, Denver & Rio Grande Western, Missouri Pacific, COTTON BELT SSW, SCL, L&N, SOUTHERN green, Western Pacific, FRISCO, and The Milwaukee Road. I would actually pay for those 1970's railroads on TRAILER TRAIN 89' flat cars. Please get the graphics right by consulting the archives of TTX and freight car builders.

Wasn't the NYC 0-8-8-0 pretty much a total failure apart from altering the one into two lesser locomotives. But I do understand the modeler wanting any and every locomotive their favorite railroad owned, even if the railroad regretted ever wasting good money purchasing it.
Well, Lionel made Baldwin Centipedes and the actual locomotive was a huge disappointment to the railroad. But have they ever considered making a Baldwin Babyface DR4-4-15? I would guess that they felt it wouldn't sell well.
Lionel's experts decide what they believe will sell. And that is what they should do. I am usually both pleased and disappointed with every catalog.
My hope for this coming catalog is for it to be significantly different from 2017 Vol 1.

I would like to see character handcars. Lionel has paid for the rights to some comic book characters and some Disney characters. I know that when I talked to some Lionel employees at the World's Greatest Hobby Show when it was in Phoenix in Feb., one mentioned that they are working on Wi-Fi for handcars and that has delayed future releases; I say forget the electronics.

Having said that, the idea that it won't be a rehash of Vol 1 sounds interesting.
I just have a hunch it will be mostly Lionels line of "throw away trains".
I truly am excited about the new catalog debut, however, if there are exciting items to buy, BTO, I will more than likely have to pass if they are not delivered to my dealer, DTMD, before April 1, 2018....Yes, I plan to retire around that time. So, I will have to hope for some great deals here on the forum...It's been fun, but I am getting older and in reality, I have been blessed with enough nice trains to enjoy for many years to come. I will then be visiting my friends all around the USA and seeing some of the really nice layouts posted on this forum, and those that made the pages of OGR THE MAGAZINE, and of course, OGR THE VIDEO. Happy Railroading....

Any ONE of these sets is a good chunk of change, but I feel for some of you guys who have multiple passenger sets on order. You're gonna get whallop'd in December.

If you planned accordingly you should be fine. They've given everyone more than enough time, intentionally or not, to fund these pre orders.
I can say I've never understood this line of thinking especially when items have been delayed. Seems you should have had the money for the original due date. Obviously everyone handles their money differently so I guess if you need to start saving, now is the time.

Membership has it's privileges. Attending the convention I guess has it's perks as well. I have no issue with this. It's all part of being a member of the LCCA to see advanced product. I'm sure if someone really wanted to "let the cat" out of the bag so to speak, no one will go to jail over it.

The idea of keeping the release secret after it was released to the Lcca in the convention is childish and just plain idiotic.
Not everybody can go to the convention, some don't have the time and some can't afford it, why should they be left out.

I'm sure if there was big news an attendee would have posted the ground breaking news by now. As we know not everyone will do as asked. I guess it's just not that big of deal to me that I can't wait until the 17th.

The really, really, really big news would be for Lionel to produce a hybrid brass Niagara or Hudson ultra detailed. So . . . . . . . my prediction is:
HYBRID BRASS NIAGARA OR HUDSON ULTRA DETAILED. Of course, it will be ultra expensive !!!
That way Lionel can ask a high price and, as you all know, we'll pay it. Niagara with whistle steam and brass detail. Just give them your credit card and have done with it.

Do you mean the S1 Duplex (6-4-4-6), the S2 Turbine (6-8-6), or the T1 Duplex (4-4-4-4)? I really want to see a T1 Production engine since there have been a lot of S1 and S2 engines made by multiple manufacturers.

Typo. Yes I meant the S1 Duplex 6-4-4-6. You won't see a scale lionel T1 Duplex thanks to the ridiculous lawsuit by MTH over copywrite laws. The T1 Duplex scale with Legacy and whistle smoke would be my #1

Maybe they own the copyright to the "method" they used to make the scale model. If so, Lionel needs to reverse engineer from the actual locomotive, avoiding the method MTH used. I would gather the Lionmaster T-1 used the MTH methodology, but because it wasn't the same scale as MTH, there is no legal case.

Doesn't make sense. I never heard the turbine was in that ordeal. I did hear the N&W 1218 was.

They made all new tooling for the Allegheny and the Big Boy in 2005-6, which I'm not 100% sure were also involved in the copyright scandal in 2000, but wouldn't surprise me if they were.
I still stand strong by my beliefs that Lionel should re-release a Legacy version of the J3A class Hudson with whistle steam. Much like the scale T-1 Duplex, it's been absent from the Lionel line for 15+ years. There's clearly a whole LOT of people on this forum who would snap it up at the flick of a switch - hence why it's really hard to find the 2002 version anywhere, even on the bay - and it's an engine that can be done in multiple variations, much like the 2015 Empire State Express was. If there's an old engine I would like Lionel to rehash, it's this one.
As for any others, I do think Lionel has made just about every engine I do want, but I will agree a Legacy Niagara, and L3/4 class Mohawk would be great.

I agree with your selection, however I do not think Lionel could risk leaving out their dealers again. I think the first go around was to test the waters and it appears it was successful. The pricing will be another story.

Not to dredge up old corpses:
There is no "copyright" of a 1:48 model of a T-1, or anything else. Lionel (and their Korean builder) were guilty of industrial espionage (sounds so Big Corporate) by actually stealing the model designs from MTH - not the PRR replica part, but the underlying machinery and parts design on a few locos in order to get to the market sooner and cheaper. The "lawsuit engines" include the PRR T-1, N&W A 2-6-6-4 and the C&O Allegheny, if my memory serves me well. Maybe more(?). Been a while. These locos contained part designs that were exact copies of MTH parts, or so it was stated. (To be honest, years ago, a friend and I compared my Lionel 2-6-6-4 with his MTH 2-6-6-4 - underneath, not in the "replica" area - and we could see no particular precise similarity in shapes and forms of the mechanicals/structure between the two - but we didn't take anything apart - and it's been a long time...)
Note that none of these TMCC locos ever even appeared with Odyssey, to say nothing of Legacy. That's because if Lionel wants to produce them, they have to pay for all-new Lionel-designed tooling, an expensive proposition on designs whose time and market may have passed. Lionel can produce all the 1:48 anythings it wants, if the money is allocated.

The issues in the Korea "scandal" were considerably more complex than mentioned, and dramatically affected by differences in Korean and USA law. In Korea, designers and executives were initially found guilty of industrial misconduct.
Lionel's subcontractor for diecast locos was a company named Korea Brass, as I recall, and they were subject to separate lawsuits by MTH in the USA, and perhaps in Korea as well. Design engineers in Korea frequently worked for more than one manufacturer (Korea Brass for Lionel and Samhongsa for MTH being two). They reused designs to save time and energy, which apparently violated Korean law, but perhaps not USA law since the events occurred in Korea.
There was no finding of liability by Lionel in the US (in comparison to Korea, where individuals were found liable and guilty of violation of Korean laws). The lawsuit between Lionel and MTH was settled by a bankruptcy judge after the initial decision favoring MTH was thrown out on appeal. An expert witness whose testimony was that Lionel's locos used MTH's designs was a reason the appeal was successful. This expert witness was ruled to have used invalid methods of reaching his conclusions.
I rather doubt there is any obstacle to Lionel producing whatever locos they want with whatever tooling they have access to. Neither Samhongsa nor Korea Brass still exists to my knowledge. What happened to those toolings is not entirely clear. MTH seems to have hung onto most or all of their diecast tooling, but the Korea Brass tooling does not seem to be owned by Lionel. I am not sure about that.
Shortly after the resolution of the main lawsuit (sealed documents), Lionel licensed production of their iconic trade dress of tinplate prewar equipment to MTH, thus I think it's fair to say the lawsuit was resolved in a way that was satisfactory to some extent to both parties.
Probably best not to talk about scandals and guilt when no USA court has found anybody at Lionel or the company itself liable for damages, much less guilty. It was a negotiated legal settlement that partisans seem to have misunderstood in that respect. Many people seem to have assumed the guilt of one of Lionel's main executives, but he has never been charged nor ever named in a lawsuit, and continues to import model trains (primarily HO and N) very successfully through his own company. Lots of invidious inferences with no hard data to support them have followed this episode.
Did Lionel report on the production status of the new logging disconnect cars? I have heard nothing about them, and last I looked they are not on the website shipping schedule.

A re-run of the LionMaster T1 with Legacy would get my money in a heartbeat. As much as I'd love a scale version, I don't think my "toy rail" 0-31/0-42/0-27 curved layout would accommodate it....

They have not produced that O scale boxcar in years. There are many more railroads left to produced. McCloud River Railroad, the accurate SOUTHERN PACIFIC scheme, the SOUTHERN Railway, NS, more COTTON BELT, WESTERN PACIFIC, SCL, CSX, D&RGW, and others.

Do you think they will do the "hint, hint" on their Facebook page like they did with the AC9 and such?
Since some of us are wishing, I have a request that all EMD F3A (and newer to F9) and all ALCO FA1 locomotives have electrocouplers on both the front and rear.
I understand the EMD FT argument, but it doesn't apply to its successors
I love to see a DD35 B unit unpowered or powered. in PRR and Southern(sufferin)Pacific. l love them both.

Hi Andrew, thanks for the information on the D&M. Below is a Pere Marquette boxcar, that is on my layout. Anything with a local road name, is always a good find. I will be looking for local road names in this up coming Lionel Catalog.

Well, Ryan did say in the TW video earlier this year to expect some NYC stuff not to far down the road(no Hudson's though). Also in his plans was #90 Stasburg RR, that would be awesome. If that isn't in there expect that in next year's I would say, make sense?
How about one of these?
Lionel needs to make much more O36 Legacy controlled steam engines, either scale small steam, or LionMaster big steam. LC+ doesn't cut it.

I would like to see Lionel make a really nice Legacy Controlled Trolley Car, with Station Stop Announcements, and whatever other sounds that make it a fun to run people carrier.....Not TMCC like the trackmobiles, but a full functioning Trolley...This would be nice for those with tight curves and it should have directional lighting, swiveling pole, etc.....How about that for a want....
Would love to see Lionel come out with the Amtrak ACS-64 electric.

Like Leapin Larry's idea. They never did anything like that. Also, some SP Daylight F-3's or F-7's & a Niagara. In accessory line, how about re-issuing a better working Coal Tipple, a train station with announcements that you can choose of different cities & lastly a crossing gate with sound.
thank you (LIONEL) for agreeing on the Trolley Car, there are many neat street cars, one called Desire, so Lionel could produce several of these in different paint schemes...Add the people sitting and standing, neat announcements, all Legacy controlled....Yes to more F7's, SP Daylights, Sante Fe War Bonnets, The Niagara with all the steam effects, blow down, steam cylinder effect, etc, swinging bell. Also another fully equipped Hudson....The list goes on and on and on...They could re-introduce Legacy Budd Cars.....Wow..

A previous post reminds me; what about a re-release of the TMCC TrackMobile. Almost impossible to find one any more and they run on the tightest turns. Mine runs on O16 SuperStreets. I need a backup unit.
Looks like to me the people who attended the convention and will not spill the beans on the new catalog are a bunch of weenies.
